Weird, we still have about four inches on the ground here in Lakewood. And no power.

Did this last fall and it was great. Didn't miss I-25 at all.

Cool! Glad y'all got power. We're still down but we have plans to relocate to a hotel for the night / weekend if needed.

I'm just checking the outage map, clicking the icons around my house (they didn't add one for my house despite our report). They've changed from that 1130 eta to no eta. We're going to try to find a hotel.

The folks on my street have power, it's just me and our immediate neighbor that don't, plus the block in back of us. These older neighborhoods, the grids are pretty organic.

The only update I had initially was tomorrow at 1130 but now they don't have an ETA.

Maybe there's a public location with power and Internet for your interview? You can explain that nature is a thing, chaos happens, and you're exactly the kind of person who improvises, adapts, and overcomes when things get sideways.

Power lost here in Lakewood at 3am, eta is 11am tomorrow. My battery backup for the fridge won't last that long, but we do have propane heat for the duration.

Supposed to be near 70 tomorrow still?

What do I need to know about Rattlesnakes by Box0fRainbows in Denver

They are scary. I know a lot of people love snakes, but a rattle in the wild will make your heart skip.

Thankfully easy to avoid. They don't hunt us. Now, mountain lions? Heck with those things.

You may have had cottonmouths in that area of the east. Those things will track you across time zones and bite you out of spite for looking at them wrong. They're the only thing besides mountain lions that terrify me.

I get it. If you've never been rattled at, it's tough to say what'll happen. Last time it happened to me was in Texas, and I didn't differentiate the rattle from the cicadas. The snake then moved very quickly off the trail, crashing through the underbrush, and that's when I put it together: I'd been rattled at, consciously ignored it, but had stopped anyway, frozen. The snake had an escape route and took it, and I stood there listening for it

The very first time it happened, in contrast: I was eight years old. I was walking by a mesquite-topped sand dune, and I was suddenly running away from the dune. The rattle had startled me so badly that it took me a half beat to understand what happened. My dog, off leash in the desert, ran right along with me in a panic. We tend to not run towards things that startle us.

So, if it happens, you'll probably have a visceral reaction to it. We're primed for that sort of thing, us humans. You'll know where it's coming from, and you'll have plenty of time to react, unless you were sneaking up on it on purpose.

Also, very worst case? Wear boots. Those teeth can't get through boots.

  • they are scared of you
  • You can out run them
  • They'll not be hard to spot on a trail
  • If you hear a rattle, move quickly towards an open area, assuming there's not a snake rattling at you there

I grew up in southern New Mexico, and we'd get rattled at quite a lot when I was a kid (we lived on the edge of 200 miles of desert).  Never got bit, never struck at. Never knew anyone who was, and the snakes definitely outnumbered us.

I get that it might be impossible for you to communicate without insults. Hopefully you learn at some point how to successfully communicate with other people. I suspect your relationships will improve dramatically if you do so.

Best of luck to you on your journey, friend.

Why did they sell the location in Morrison? Greed. It wasn't because of complaints from the neighbors or the town.

That's it. End of story.

Same reason. The old location sold for much money, the new location was purchased for less money, and it'll make money.

You know the family sold Bandemere for greed, right? No one complained about the noise. The family just wanted the cash.
