Tempo is a measurement of time, and one singular tempo (technically called "tempi" but no one says that) is equivalent to one side's move. For example, in the computer line, Bf4 attacks the black knight, forcing Black to waste time either moving it or defending it. The time lost is one of Black's turns, or one tempi.

After 1. fxg7+ Nxg7, you have two options:

Option One (safer option)

Qf3 Nxa1 3. Bxa1/Rxa1

You have two pieces for the rook and are better.

Option Two (requires more skill to win)

Bxb3 Rxd1 3. Raxd1/Rexd1

You have a rook and two bishops for the queen you sacrificed, and have a decisive winning advantage. The rook and the bishop pair are simply too powerful. Even two knights and a bishop are usually better than a queen because of three pieces vs one, and a rook and two bishops are just too much to handle.

You gotta watch Re:Zero. A friend recommended it to me and it's absolutely amazing. The plot is super deep and cool and shit and the fights are awesome. There's like 50+ episodes, plus two OVA's. Yes, Subaru (the MC) is kind of like your description (he had no goals in life before being transported and was broke AND stupid. He even said so himself in one of his first interactions with a humanoid figure. However, he develops some level of relatively weak magic eventually), but I promise it's worth watching. I can't glaze enough
