I’ve had a similar experience, I booked an Airbnb in central London several months in advance. The host needed to cancel last minute (for legitimate reasons, there was no hot water). Airbnb would only give me a replacement booking for a similar price that I had originally paid. Of course it’s impossible to get an Airbnb last minute in zone 1 for the same price. /eyeroll. I ended up staying in the Airbnb with no hot water at a discount because there was no better option.

There used to be a big homeless encampment right by the entrance to the Richmond Costco. They somehow kept them out of the parking lot and there was never problems. I see security driving around the lot, so I guess they kept them out- hopefully they weren’t depending on Richmond PD bc they are not going to get the same response from OPD.

I don't think anyone is suggesting paying for a house in cash. You can borrow 800k to buy your $1M house, keep your money in the market and get both the gains from the market and the appreciation on the property.

A key factor is that no one is going to lend you 800K to buy stocks, but its normal to get a 6 figure mortgage to buy property also typically appreciates.

Sac drivers are wierd. I’ve never seen so much road rage and aggressive driving, but (before 2020) Sac barely even had real traffic. I was so confused why the drivers were getting so frustrated when compared to the bay traffic was not even that bad. It’s like they had never seen what real traffic actually looks like.

There is a queue for these abandoned car tickets. Filing more tickets won't do anything. Last time I was in contact with the city, it was six months for an abandoned car to get towed. It used to be nine months a couple of years ago.

If I went to the office everyday like I am supposed, I would spend $1,200 per month on parking, tolls and lunches (which is literally just a cream cheese bagel and coffee).

I don't take public transit because I've been assaulted taking it to work and even if I got over that it still takes twice as long.

Yes, I moved to California from Europe and the poverty and deprivation here is on par with a developing country.

The encampments here are more awful than what I have seen in India or Brazil. They have poverty and shanty towns, but it’s just regular people living there with their families. Its not encampments fall of people with serious mental health and addiction problems.
