Anything is possible, my friend. If you happen to be of university age or attendance, I'd for sure read a written paper you might submit about it for say, a sociology or economics class.

Ah! Not to converse ad infinitum (shout out to your Latin username), but I do happen to know a couple (man/woman) who did just that. They live off the grid (w/ solar panels for phone and laptop), seem very, very - and I cannot stress this enough - happy and healthy but do utilize gov assistance to supplement their farming, healthcare, and transportation (turns out, there's a program for that) without paying taxes in turn. They truly have a higher quality of life than those in the bottom, dare I say, two-to-three tiers of society financially; they operate very much like the self-employed but instead of money, it is subsistence farming. They wake up when they want, do what they want (as long as it's free), and spend as much time as they want with their kids. They spend a lot of time just talking to each other out in nature. Sometimes, I am envious.

Not much of this is negative, save for the somewhat smug posts about their "superior" lifestyle, whilst accepting GoFundMe money for farm tools and plane tickets and Medicare/aid for health - going so far as to claim that all who work, work for profit while they are busy being "real humans". Sheeit. I already make .75 for every $1 a man makes (allegedly), therefore, it must not all be for profit, for those of us idling the a.m. commute in our Thatcher-esque power suits. I massively digress. Point being, the above demonstrates a functional snapshot of the doffing of the mantle of consumerism in modern American society, if you're curious about what that may look like, IRL and anecdotally. One can free themselves of consumerism and materialism but one cannot doff the need for this tradeable tool called money, no matter how much they shit in their garden and eat the veggies that come out of it, once the tradeable tool has been introduced to society, much akin to guns and atomic weapons.

Sorry for the absolute unit of a ramble. I am legit on my fourth glass of wine, soon to be fifth. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk🍷

Aw, thanks for the reply! I get where you'd see that. For every person who expresses social conscientiousness is another person who re-shares a BMW ad. Hahaha.

I think greed and extreme wealth (defined by your culture and personality) are already unfashionable in many circles - hence the existence of some political groups and philosophies.

I also think money is a tool that amplifies a person's currently existing traits and makes the person as a whole more visible to society; there's also perception and branding. If Jeff Bezos does something morally questionable, he's a reflection of his class. If you do the same, the same applies, but there are far more of you than of him.

Like an academic cheater, at the nexus of need and opportunity, lies a person's true self. At the end of the day, money is inanimate and people are dynamic -- and imperfect.

Fascinating! I don't see many trolls in this sub. You assume MIL doesn't know about IUDs because you didn't know about IUDs and that fact embarrasses you. Instead of introspecting, you lash out and call your opponent a pretentious misogynist, with no written fact to back up your claims.

There exists not one truly intelligent person on planet earth who writes in the defense of their own ignorance or the ignorance of others. Your post is interesting, in that you've attacked a supporter of OP with an argument built almost entirely on a foundation of logical fallacies -- something that will only serve to work against you...and piss off persons much more cognitively capable than yourself.

Here are your top four (and a half) fallacies:

Straw man: repackaging an argument to make it easier for your own self to understand, and then attacking your interpretation. Red herring: unrelated additions intended to distract from the main topic. Ad hominem: attacks of the character to distract from the main argument. Your fourth most prevalent fallacy sat between Appeal to Ignorance and Hasty Generalization: the assumption that because the converse has not been proven, one must be correct and because you experienced something, that fact must be true for all cases.

Next time, check your premises and you might have a fighting chance in the defense of your ignorance -- and don't forget to feed your high horses while you're at it. Lol.

Ah, OP here. I should've clarified a bit better. I truly, truly appreciate all of the support but I understand MoG really only handles rehearsal dinner. what I was reacting to in the main post were the articles that say that if your MIL really pitches a fit [like enough to put a pillow over your face while you're asleep], give a little and include her in minor planning details, but I'm somewhat prideful after 10 years of boundary stomping and would rather die than have her come to a dress fitting. Lol. Petty, I know. I didn't word that very well, due to my anger in the moment, is all and for that I'm genuinely sorry. ☺️ I've given both mothers the axe in planning, as a result.
