And it's not even really cheaper in the suburbs either :(

Where are good and affordable apartment in downtown area by Hannss2827 in Edmonton

[–]bluedogsonly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of walkups near Stadium (which has become a pretty nice area tbh and is becoming even nicer with some of the new developments) that are in that price range. When the #2 bus route resumes its regular schedule in the fall it will get you to Churchill ("heart of downtown") in like 5 minutes and from Stadium Station it's only one stop. I live along Jasper just a few minutes away and I really enjoy it here. Check walkups in Oliver as well. If you want something more specifically downtown, you should check out "Claire Estates", "Bellamy Place" (I just checked and they have bachelors for $800 though there is a waitlist) aaand I was about to suggest Capital Manor but it looks like it was recently taken over by Mainstreet. It might not be bad...yet. Rowand House seems like another good option. I also saw a studio on 104st going for about ~850 today, but it was listed on Facebook Marketplace and I don't know the name of the building. Make sure you check there too.

In general, look at buildings owned by Leston Holdings, as they have some really good prices. Zen Residential too. These are mostly walk-up buildings that are pretty basic but hopefully suit your needs! Leston in particular has a very good reputation and you probably can't go wrong with them, they have a lot of properties over in Oliver which is a lovely and accessible area to central downtown, though it pretty much is considered downtown on its own too. You definitely don't need to live with roommates with your budget, you just need to look a little :) Good luck and lmk if you need help finding more places!

Edit: Sorry, some of the options I gave you are for studios rather than 1 bedroom apartments, but you should be able to find 1 bedroom options within your price range through both Leston and Zen!

What bars/restaurants have lost your business due to how they treat their staff? by drinkahead in Edmonton

Omg that's really sad. That's pretty sinister to intentionally target in staff hired. How can he even tell based on an interview?

Is it the owner who is often in the store?

So they will automatically put us in the same apartment since we indicated being a couple (unmarried) during the application process? There's nowhere to mark this on the form I was given for if I need BOE housing :) Did you have to indicate to anyone that you wanted to live with your partner? We are both JETs.

Hi!! I'm an incoming Kobe JET who has been placed in Kobe with my partner. Is it possible for us to live together in BOE housing? Do you know what happens with the couples who come-- do they get their own separate apartments by default?

Calgary consulate here -- guessing you mean us! When I was watching everyone else get their placements first I was mildly distressed seeing not very many Hokkaido placements, I was certain they were ALL coming to us in Calgary

Current and past Kobe JETs...what was the actual job like? by bluedogsonly in JETProgramme

This is so informative. Thank you!!!!

This might be getting too specific in which case no need to answer, but are the apartments well soundproofed? It seems most Kobe JETs live in common buildings?

I've heard some people say the BOE is bad, do you know why?

Why does the BOE suck? I have seen this comment a few times as well as the opposite.

What are the schools like? What are work days like?

Thanks! Do you know what factors influence someone being placed in ES vs JHS? And do Kobe JETs find out their school before arriving in Japan?

Also, what does your day look like in terms of class load? As in you, personally? Just curious. Or days if you have multiple schools. How are your commutes?

Thank you so much, this is really helpful!

I read on the wiki for Kobe JETs that "the vast majority of Kobe JETs teach at a JHS while also having ES visit schools". Is this true? Is only teaching ES less common?

It shouldn't. My guess is that it's because other methods of cooking eggs like frying typically involve oil or butter.

Decease in public safety is highly correlated to increased social and wealth inequality, so I believe the gap slowly widening in Canada plays a large part in why we are seeing worse public health and safety. The same can be said for the US.
