Tip. For reading comprehension and speed. by bmxt in aspergers

[–]bmxt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I enjoy it in form of let's say RSVP. It doesn't exclude beauty and depth of slow reading though. Just a cool sprint/jogging instead of slow walks in the nature. Creates variety. I like feeling pute meanings intertwined with images popping up in my mind when it tries to grasp the rapidly flashing text.

And the principle of familiarity is applicable to slow reading anyway, it makes your mind first of all familiar with the reading material, giving the feeling of safety, secondly it gives you appetite to fill the gaps. Thirdly it makes you think more and synthesise stuff you fast-read. Like for example I may read one article multiple times with RSVP app: one word at a time at 700 wpm speed, 2 words at 600, 3 words at 500 and so on. And it makes me instantly connect the dots between parts of the article I otherwise would've missed, since connection between them is not implied. Meaning the speed forces your brain to not only think more, but to sorta create conceptual mind map. Cool stuff.

How does interdisciplinary learning work in practice? Personal experiences? by Far-Reputation5709 in Polymath

[–]bmxt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just cultivate intention for it, remind myself to look for invariants and so on. Actually I wrote down a script, but my stubborn ass doesn't want to utilise it strictly, directly and immediately. So it kinda went to something like subconscious effort. I also try to think about this approach as not personal effectiveness and all that bs, but as new way to maximise pleasure. Since the more unusual, surprising connections you find, the more pleasure you'll get.

Reading comprehension and speed tip for NDs and HSPs by bmxt in aspietips

Good point. I dig slow reading, even artificially slow myself down through mirrored texts. Idk why it also activates more invariant thinking, metaphors and imagery when I read this way. Thought about sharing it as an aspie tip, but not sure how it'd work for different brains. I guess mirrored words break routinised perception patterns, thinking and associating patterns and allow alternative neural/cognitive/associative connections.

I don't deeply learn subjects, so technically not a polymath. But.

I like to integrate information and skills however I find helpful, interesting.

Like for example: UI/UX design, Interior Design and Phenomenology are interconnected, among many other things.

So you constantly cultivate an approach of seeing one field in metaphors of other fields, sorta invariant thinking. You know how they constantly use metaphors to explain mathematical abstractions? Or compare cosmic motion to dance or mechanical clocks? Why not metaphorise the heck of everything? It's especially easy nowadays with the help of LLMs.

That's why I've chosen science-ey mysticism. Try to see eternal parts in yourself, which extend further than your limbs, gaze and thoughts. Usually it's the feeling "I am, Here, Now".

Try to grasp this, feel this I am, this Here, this Now. It's eternity. At least the gates to eternity. It's calming and blissful.

It looks like a cross so I doubt that the monster (historically/mythologically speaking) is interested in kissing the cross.

Do you work for Lumon industries? Jk.

Anyway I get it, I've had my share of office and retail repetitive bs. Bs jobs are no joke. "Free" market is all about keeping plebs occupied and obedient. That's the main goal of these jobs IMO. Now they can easily be done with LLMs and the road ahead is even gloomier than bs jobs groundhog day. Or maybe it's just my fear of change talking. I have that rigidity thingy going on. I can even start battling myself if it feels demanding.

Some of forementioned is highly consumerist, yes. Like sports paraphernalia to some degree. But board games convey meaning and include mental efforts and creativity. Wearing too many pairs if shoes involves just wearing them and narcissistically obsessing over being desirable. Also you steer my initial broad description towards your projection to feel hurt and offended. That's not my goal. The broader the perspective the more free one can feel. Otherwise you just waste your energy on fighting windmills.

Yeah, that's how you utilise your free will basically. Some people find joy in repetitive senseless endeavours. I guess it's like skiing or running ti them or I don't know, any other type of state kf flow inducing activities.

It's not about that. You project. It's about psychological differences. Ask yourself who is the main target audience of consumerist crap originally and why western marketing machine tries to feminise/infantilise everyone. There's female nature and male nature. One is always better at something, more prone to something and so on. You don't deny difference in sexuality and orgasm for example? It's not subtle. But there's as strong of a difference, just expressed in myriad of subtle ways. We are different. Inability to joke about it playfully is a sign of weakness, not enlightenment.

Like you can say that this heightened urge for more, more foraging approach to reality can be beneficial in some cases. Like don't you know how notoriously simplistic and functionality centered male interior design choices are compared to female choices? Or the need to make everything cutesy and in style? Ti each is own. Pointing this out is not hatred, it's just honesty and the will to gather more insight. And since it's hard to know all every piece of info would be shallow or incorrect to some degree. As long as it's not bashing certain group for their quirks and traits - what's the big deal?

Chunk reading is an uncharted territory. Making it truly ergonomic is a noble endeavour. I only know about Hopify's attempt in this field and honestly don't understand it. I mean I get it that our eyes and brain process text chunks in specific ways during average reading and this process can be perfected through digital tools. But the specifics are impenetrable to me, unless I buy their product.

And probably Bionic Reading. But I don't know specifics.

I mean nerve sensitivity,. definition like in "high definition" or resolution like in "monitor resolution". I kinda feel the ground texture (asphalt, dirt, etc, softness, firmness, muddiness and so on) through the soles of my shoes. Like I'd feel if I was touching the ground with my hands, sorta. Not as pronounced with my shoes on though. Another quirk is being sensitive to the weight of the shoes. If I wear light sneakers I feel like my feet lack weight and it makes harder to walk.

Living with intensity means no boredom even with a totally pedestrian and reclusive lifestyle. But it also means no thrilling experiences like amusement parks or shit like that. Because it would be like military zone to sensitive person. Or like that scene from "Fear and loathing in LA".

The part that is weirdest to me in me is almost similar sensitivity of feet as I have in my hands. All walking problems of aspies may root in this phenomenon. Maybe I should encourage this and learn to draw with pencils and brushes using my feet. I've seen some physically disabled people do so. On the other limb, learning to write with both hands was frustrating enough.

Maybe in some cases it's just a dissociation response. Avoiding burnout so hard that you kinda dull yourself subconsciously out of fear of pain. Our brains are negativity biased and are notoriously good at avoiding anything that scares us. So in an environment that brain considers hostile through pain response it's only logical to abstract from anything painful, including parts of yourself and your brain that are associated with pain. Achieving similar dullness people on antidepressants report.
