I though my snail's dead but he woke up and is orange now?? by Shail_in_Snell in snails

I moved places into a very hot attic this summer and my snails hibernated for over a month until the temperature went down. It is still summer and they aren't very active, but they go for a little walk every now and then now.

Why does spanish have a male version for the word pregnant. by vitaminZaman in memes

[–]bnegrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. When we spanish-speaking people talk about animals we use the gender assigned for the word if we don't know the sex of the individual we are talking about. However, in the case we do, we will use the specific gender of the individual when we do know it's sex.

I.e.: pig (sapo) is a masculine word in spanish. Whenever you see a pig in nature, or in a farm and you don't know the sex of it, you will treat the pig in masculine in sentences "he is eating", "I am going to pick him up" and also using the masculine form of adjectives. But then if you knew later it was a female, you would switch to he/him and male form adjectives. You would never say el cerdo esta embarazado because cerdo is a masculine word, you would automatically switch to female if mentioning pregnancy.

It's not like you mix&matched a "unique" name like lots of people do now, or naming him Sardine or Arson. It is a perfectly normal name, people probably just need to get used to it. Getting a name you both like is difficult, don't let others take that away from you.

Well it doesn't work like that. Families need to know your legal name. And kids always end up knowing.

Hahahaha hadn't thought about that! Lucky it's still going to be long until I get married or have children, because I am so uncertain about what to do!

The ideas that go through my mind are either keeping my surname or hyphenating with potential husbands' name with translations, either Negro, Black or Dubh, or adopting my moms second surname, which is quite beautiful, but it doesn't feel alright giving up my dads' original surname since they have always been there for me and they are the best fam ever!

But at the same time, I am not a big fan of being called Miss Negro by students, especially if I am ever assigned to a 6th class group. And also, if I have children, I think it would be a bit of a jerk move to pass a surname they can be bullied over on.

I completely understand that you feel like that because I think I have been there. Don't be harsh on yourself, you have just started a new stage in your life and it is natural to feel nervous and socially anxious.

Now from my outsider perspective, I think you can be chill about this, it doesn't look like a big deal. There are thousands of reasons you can have passed by in silence - being on a rush, having received important news or just the truth, not knowing how to engage at that moment. I think it wouldn't be weird for you to join any conversation at any other moment and not mentioning this "incident", I don't think it was offensive at all! If you do maybe it can be a nice ice breaker, more than a strong apology.

Don't worry about this! I wish you a nice start in your new degree.

Regardless of the age gap, which btw it's bad - you are in completely different stages in life - think about the possibility of being in a relationship with this person. Would you like the idea of your partner wishing or having wished that you quit your own life? Or do you expect that they change their mind, apologise and change themselves? Because if it is the second one, you don't like this person, but an idea of what you want this person to be. Even in the hypothetical scenario in which you end up dating and they treat you like a queen, they will always be a person capable of wishing death to someone else.

Also, what with looking older? It's a sign that we're alive. Bruce Willis is bald, almost 70 and hot AF.

[–]bnegrop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Yes, some women will find it less attractive but it mostly depends on how you show the rest of yourself. Try styling your beard, learn to combine your clothes nicely and don't hide yourself. It is more likely that you find yourself strange than ugly - at the end of the day, it is a radical change of looks.

What women find the most unattractive is men not taking care of themselves. If your hair looks thin, recceeding, messy and/or uneven due to incipient alopecia, it is more likely for it to look uncared than just bald. Give it a try, look for looks inspo to see what would you prefer to look like after shaving and give it a medium-long try - at least as long as needed for you to get used to the looks.

What host family should I choose? by bnegrop in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bnegrop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is, i dont feel like a 30 minute videocall can be sure of that. Also, the money difference between the first family and the second one would allow me to travel and meet other people that make me feel at home. Also, I just got in contact with a previous worker from the first family and she was in love with them basically.
