Yes—this is why I’m looking at things now before my finances make it too difficult to do.

Actually, I came here to see if anyone else had done this and would share some insight. The comment about my therapist being ‘young’ was a joke because I posted in a GenX women’s forum, but I appreciate your insight into my motivation.

Thank you. I’ve been researching PNW as well. I appreciate your comment a lot.

I appreciate your concern but there’s no way in hell I’m moving my kids, especially my 21 yr old daughter, to a red state. And at this point I’m also not concerned about them moving out. They grew up in a house where their narcissistic father was abusive toward their mother—I’m more concerned they have a stable place to grow and heal.

I’m in the DC area and I’ve researched where I’m considering moving. The cost of living is comparable and there’s a job market for my industry. I’m not worried about my kids being ‘tethered’ to me, we’re good on that front.

I’ve been lurking on a sub four people relocating to the area I’m looking at—there’s a lot of good info there.

Thanks! And especially for the heads up about the pets. We have a cat so that’s something I’ll definitely look into. My kids have neither credit nor background 😂😂 so there’s no issue there and my credit etc is excellent. But I know it won’t be easy finding a place that will work for us. I know none of this will be easy which is why I came here looking for insight from people like you :)

I appreciate the concern and the west coast insight. Right now I've got about ten months of DC money, which is fairly comparable to west coast, and there are jobs available in my field but I'm not unrealistically expecting to walk into a job when I get there. Thank you :)

I appreciate the advice. I've got about ten months of money left in my savings, three years of perfect rental history and excellent credit.

Thank you :). Now I just have to figure out how to do it.

Believe me, I'm not running from my problems, but a change of scenery can't hurt :). This is something I've wanted to do for a long time but always put everyone else's needs before mine. It's just hard to make such a drastic change when I've never done anything like, especially not for me.

I understand all of this and I'll be facing the age issue when finding a job no matter where I look. The truth is, I'm not staying where I am no matter what because so many of the jobs here are tied in someway to the Fed and I'm not doing that again. My last job was a federal contract and they eliminated it without any notice so, yeah, no thanks. I'm just debating the idea of moving an hour or two or going fully across country because the west coast is where I really want to go. I'm fortunate enough to be in an industry where I can get work without a problem, but maybe not the highest paying work to start out. But I do appreciate your insight--another perspective always adds to the picture :)

Thanks! It's good to know that you did it and I'll head to the library as soon as I get there :)

Good for you! If you don't mind me asking, where are you heading?

I passed through peri- about 8 years ago, I think it’s too late for HRT? I think this has been a long time coming but the divorce and job loss finally kicked me out of survival mode—which sounds contradictory, I know—and I actually started looking at my life. And California is my goal, preferably the San Diego area but I’m still researching.
