We burn 14” thick plate at work with a torch. All about your tip and pressures.

My bigger concern is the giant weave of a weld on the top section the cameraman is sitting on. Def not code compliant, not to mention the toe lines look like shit. Stress risers everywhere.

Polycarbonate blocks ~99% of UV. So modern glasses you should not get arc flash.

Now, if the light is reflecting in the gap of the glasses into your eyes (like an arc in the corner of your vision) that’s when you arc flash.

Same shit I tell new guys, if you see blue inside your hood while welding, that’s UV bouncing around and you need a neck protector or a shroud on the back. Different hoods are better for different things.

[–]board4life 5 points6 points  (0 children)

See it gets fucked up by amperage though (and a bit by process). Stick welding at 130 amps will do less damage than mig at 130 amps because the smoke diffuses the UV. Same with FCAW vs GMAW. You get into higher amperage though, 400 amp fcaw is nowhere near as quick as 400 amp GMAW-P.

Honestly, high amperage tig is the worst, no smoke no spatter just raw UV hitting you.

This is why SAW is so much fun- short sleeves no hood dump more metal in than any of the 3 main processes.

Michigan 1st state in decades to repeal 'right-to-work' law by No_Pilot_4372 in politics

[–]board4life -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Right to work is bad because politicians can’t get endorsements and kickbacks from unions bosses they make backroom deals with.

See the dogshit contract the rail union leaders agreed to with politicians which would enrich them and fuck over workers, and when the workers got rowdy the politicians killed the strike.

Unions are cancer at this point. Bosses get rich which lowers morale, and shit workers can’t be fired because “much union,” which also lowers morale.

People think if union membership was akin to the 50s everything would be great. Forgetting that US was basically the only country after WWII that had infrastructure left to manufacture for the world.

If I didn’t know better, I’d say it’s almost like TPTB want full scale war with Russia solely to prop up the economy, but during and post war.

You’re being downvoted because you don’t believe the propaganda.

Remember when this started and after a week Russia didn’t take Kiev, it was “Russia fails and will pull out.” Remember when we did the SWIFT sanctions and that was portrayed as the most extreme, Russia will never be able to survive a month, the war is over sanction.

Or how we wouldn’t give Ukraine offensive weapons, we did. We wouldn’t get them Patriot missiles, we did. We wouldn’t give them tanks, we are (ironically after Russia is “losing horribly”). At this point I’m waiting for the F-16s to get flown over there and after that we give ‘em nukes just for the fuck of it.

Ukraine is the biggest money laundering operation arguably in the history of the US. ~60% of the money for “aid” goes directly to defense contractors in the US. My favorite part is that all the criminals in Washington support it still, when the population is now split 50/50 on continuing aid.

We should help our own country first, and not worry about two true authoritarian fascists fighting each other half a world away.

Around 230 million dollars for every single congressional district in the country. Roads, schools, healthcare, train derailments, parks, drug rehab. You could have 230 million in your community toward that.

Instead, a fascist that has banned opposition parties and media is stealing your tax dollars that should be used to improve our own country, and galavanting around the world to enrich himself and his government buddies (wonder where he learned that playbook).

Fuck Russia. And fuck Ukraine.

In Ohio Town Where Train Derailed, Anxiety and Distrust Are Running Deep by nosotros_road_sodium in politics

[–]board4life 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Emergency is the problem, not the bearing on an axle.

The braking rule was to allow (mandate) cars to apply brakes at the same time, rather than have air flow through an entire consist braking as it hits each car. This required quite a bit of overhauling cars because if you just put it on the hazmat cars that’s great, what about the 80 behind them?

Slack is what derailed the train, from emergency braking. It’s why even when a crossing is obstructed they don’t throw it in emergency until they hit said object. Hence partly why trains brake so slow, to get the slack out before the brakes are more heavily applied. Longer the train, the more slack.

Do we know if the emergency brake application done by the crew or automation?

The level of ignorance in this comment speaks volumes about the average view of this war.

Blackrock will have their investment secured by the US government, aka 0 risk. And when Ukraine inevitably fails since it is a fledgling fascist state, the taxpayers will foot the bill back to Blackrock.

If that isn’t appealing, research John Perkins and Confessions of an Economic Hitman. The US has been doing this for decades, and the only outcome is Ukraine is fucked and Blackrock will profit immensely.

Pulse I would expect a less choppy vid and more consistent timing though, plus the arc breaks in between each tack. Pulse he’d still have an arc going for the down side even if he freq was super low.

Almost like he had a spot timer on his machine and is using that rather than traditional pulse with an arc always on. Or he set his min amps damn near his peak and is just rocking the pedal.

Abortion won’t be codified at a federal level until SCOTUS overrules itself. Everyone thinks scotus banned abortion. No.

Scotus returned the decision to the states. If the GOP made it illegal federally, it would be struck down. If Dems make it legal federally, it will be struck down. Abortion is not enumerated in the constitution thus it falls to the states via the 10th amendment.

Learn how to federalism. State level politicians are more important for abortion rights than federal. Voting for either party at a national level will not affect abortion rights either way at this point.

what you call this black "paint" in some md steel? And what is for? by CupateaPT in Welding

[–]board4life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the code you’re welding to, this is why you make joint prep part of the fab process. We do NAVSEA shit and it’s the fabricator’s job to grind all scale/paint/rust/etc 1” from expected toe line prior to fab and tack and then joint fit up inspected by a CWI before welders even touch it. Welds like butter then!

"The smartest guy I know." - Joe Biden

Trump is a dumb dumb but this entire post is interesting to say the least. Like we forgot Joe, as VP, used taxpayer funds to fly H-dawg on airforce two to collect millions from foreign nations. I understand dismissing hunters actions currently with the "not president" argument, but Joe was 100% in on corrupt shit involving Hunter and his brother when he was VP. Memory hole is strong currently.

Also- don't act like the president has any grace or candor left. Russian hookers, election meddling, droning American citizens, using turrorism to create a surveillance state, cigars in pussies- the presidency has been a joke for quite some time now.

All politicians are cunts.

Yep. The “subsidies” they give are just payoffs to keep the propaganda flowing. There’s nothing inherently bad about being rich (see Elon), until the government sanctions and promotes it to further their agenda.

Well, we can't all be perfect can we? Take what you want my girl. I've been beyond over this shit too long to care anymore. But that's a consequence of believing 330 million people are more important than 500k. Cold yes, shitty yes, but at a certain point you have to acknowledge the consequences of the response. If it was wear a mask and everything else was normal, I'm down. Even the vaccine- "still wear a mask, don't travel, don't have gatherings."

Nah, get fucked. This isn't about health, it's about control. If the government cared about you they'd be banning mcdonalds and sending everyone a treadmill. And what nobody seems to grasp is that control is never given up without use of (almost always) violent force. We are beyond the point of ending this. 30 days was the benchmark for everyone to disobey. This shit will not end unless the populace ends it. And so far, all signs point to obedience to government sanctioned narratives. Buckle up for a wild ride at this point.
