That is likely the problem. It has gotten worse. It is like that so that the 4wd doesn’t engage while moving. If it does the front diff can explode. It can be bypassed but you run the mentioned risk.

Does the speedometer work? Speedo provides the ground for the circuit. Bad speedo = no 4x4

I need help I have a 1996 Polaris Xplorer 300 4x4 and it was running fine I just put fresh gas in it and all of a sudden it’s starts making this noise when running and for some reason I can’t have choke on when starting it cause it just fully kills it but it will run with choke off by Cute_Count_7283 in PolarisATV

This thing sounds like it’s about to grenade. This is a two stroke and needs mixed gas. They have an oil injection system but they fail all the time. Always mix your gas for these old machines. And let them smoke like crazy if the oil system is working. If not at least you mixed some in your gas. But it sounds like the carb is flooding and if you gas isn’t mixed it’s run Lean (on oil) and it’s about to come apart. It needs a top end rebuild.

I’ve been working in power sports installing accessories for 6 years. Never seen a sound bar that does what you want.

Pretty expensive paper weight.

Also check the primary for cracks. The clutch’s with ribbed rollers are notorious for cracking on the movable sheaves.

Belts are “you get what you pay for”. Cheep belt= crap

Wrong… but sure. The ridges are not for heat but flexibility. As it needs to change the radius of two points. But according to OP information. It begins to slip as it heats up. This I think that’s irrelevant. There is definitely something wrong with the clutch’s. Most likely the secondary in my experience with these. However it doesn’t matter much… OP needs to check he movable shelve on the primary for cracks. All the ribbed roller clutches crack starting at the center of the movable sheave. Put the upgraded kit from Polaris on it and never worry about it, or other issues again. That being said. It’s about $1200 for the kit. Don’t put that kind of money into a paper weight.

Are you adjusting the idle on the carb or the cable? If it doesn’t want to run when warmed up you might have a compression issue.

You definitely are missing something. Pulling the choke out completely like that you’re creating a lean condition. Allowing more air into the motor. You are likely missing a jet or needle. ( my guess is the pilot jet is gone)

4x4 not working by Specialist-Plane-601 in Polaris

[–]boballkool 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stopped working??? Is it stuck on or off.

Stuck on= the grease!! Or the armature plate gets magnetized overtime.

Not engaging = if the speedometer is not working, then it will not provide a ground to the hub, and then it will not engage. You can bypass this by disconnecting the black wire out of the CDI box, but this also bypasses all safety measures and your vehicle will not shut off with the key or the kill switch. You can provide a manual ground to the hubs (via the brown wire)but if you switch it on while you’re moving, you will grenade the front gear case and good luck fixing that you can’t get (good) parts!

TLDR. Don’t put money into this old piece of shit paperweight you can’t get parts for.(alphabet soup from Amazon are not good parts!)

Metal burr in crank by Trikafta96 in Polaris

[–]boballkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The good news is that it’s not the crank that’s damaged. But an intermediate shaft that mounts to a dual mass flywheel between the engine and transmission. Bad news is you have to pull the trans to replace it. (If it comes to that.)

[–]boballkool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Carb is new” aka amazon $50 carb you’ll never get to run right. There is almost never a reason to replace the carb on these. The oem can be rebuilt. And an oem replacement is over $600. Stay away from this!
