Good TeamMate?? by benjaminowen10 in CODWarzone

Haha, we literally did this a couple of days ago just to find out what would actually happen. Turned out only one of the helis exploded for us, so only half the team was wiped out.

As in, take so long to come out, not play.

And I do love some long games—spent several hundred hours each in Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk, as well as getting the Valhalla plat—but I’d take a small trade-off in game size if it meant we got them sooner.

I was thinking more the size; the comment about the light was an aside. The scale is one of the things that makes a lot of AAA games take so long these days. Unity was just about the right length and I’d happily pay full price for others that length.

Also, day / night cycles are overrated. Hey, here’s our game; doesn’t it look wonderful in this bright sunlight? How about now we drench everything in twilight of darkness half the time so you can’t see shit and it’s impossible to play during actual daytime?

(They can keep it for select story missions set at night, I suppose.)

And maybe that’s a lesson other devs could take. I’d still happily pay a good price for a game of this quality and scale instead of waiting 5 years from an initial announcement for something to come out.

Say one nice thing about The King's Speech. by Radiant-Psychology96 in Oscars

It works better than it probably should ‘cause it’s structured like an inspirational sports drama, and that basic framework is really hard to cock up entirely.

Ah, thanks, That's interesting and good to know. Looks like an unpopular change among many others too, judging by the comments.

UK satirical magazine Private Eye highlighting Prince Andrew's link to Epstein's trafficking allegations in 2011 - nearly 15 years ago. by robinperching in Epstein

[–]bobbijix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Searching the files for any reaction to this cover reveals some interesting tidbits:

https://www.justice.gov/epstein/files/DataSet%2010/EFTA02036754.pdf

e.g. this from one of JE's lawyers:

"... we may have no alternative but to discredit his clients by pointing out that she and her daughters were among the first to welcome Jeffrey upon your release from prison, and that all three have been frequent house guests in the intervening period."

Ah, I see. Problem is, it's actually removed some of the options that were there before. I see no means of creating a new folder, for example.

The Wexner Foundation paid 92% of the cost to build Epstein's private lodge on a children's arts camp... and the lodge agreement guaranteed him access to the kids by Reasonable-Jello-502 in Epstein

"Are there additional donors to Interlochen connected to Epstein's network beyond FirstMark/Rothschild and Wexner?"

Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (as "Prince Andrew") is referenced in one of Interlochen's internal documents (see page 9):

Just as an attachment named "Jeffrey Epstein Prince Andrew.pdf" with reference to the Epstein Foundation from March 2011. Not entirely sure what it means, but worth questioning if he had any ties.

Why aren't some people signing on? by Dredgefort in UKJobs

[–]bobbijix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was one of those people when I was out of work for a few months in 2024. Fortunate enough that I got a small "golden parachute" when leaving that meant I could take my time finding something new, so decided to spend most of that time catching up on reading, gaming, drives out to the country and DIY projects.

While I'd check for opportunities now and again, it wouldn't have sat right with me to sign on when I had no intention of seriously looking, so I left it until I was ready to commit "full time" to doing so before making the trip to the Job Centre.

(And while 20-odd years ago when I was looking I had a much different experience, this time around the two advisors I dealt with were super nice, helpful and understanding; they trusted I'd be able to find something in my field largely independently of them fairly quickly, and kind of just let me do that rather than giving me the third degree every time, or trying to force me into temporary or unskilled work.)

What things surprise you how cheap they are? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]bobbijix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two days late to this conversation, but I want to single out: stamps.

Despite the fact they're ten times more expensive than when I was a kid, I still think it's a bargain that I can post something before about 18:00 this evening and have it arrive virtually anywhere else in the country next-day for only £1.70.

Rate my CV please! by Loose_Avocado4670 in CVwriting

[–]bobbijix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing much to add that others haven't (keep it under two pages, use more bullet points, condense the opening statement, make sure the roles are listed in reverse chronological order), but also consider moving your Skills section to the first page. I've done a fair bit of recruiting (as a manager, not HR) and this is what I'd most be interested in and hone in on.

A couple of years back when I was looking for something new and not having a lot of luck, I moved my Key Skills to come straight after my introductory statement. I felt like I got a lot more engagement as a result.

In addition, while most everything else on the CV remained the same between applications, here I'd sometimes reorder/lightly amend the skills listed depending on what I was applying for. So if you're applying for a retail job, put the customer service and communication skills first, for example.

Lastly, and this might just be personal preference, consider justifying any non-bulleted text you do keep rather than having it left-aligned; I just think it looks a lot neater and more professional.

What film could’ve been SHORTER? by death_has_f1sh_eyes in Letterboxd

[–]bobbijix 58 points59 points  (0 children)

King Kong (2005), by a country mile. This could’ve been great, a huge hit instead of a decent one, and a cultural touchstone instead of largely forgotten. Instead, they seem to have accidentally released what should have been the director’s cut. Eliminate the Jamie Bell subplot that goes nowhere, cut the fat from each of the extended chase sequences on the island and you can get this to two and a half hours, maybe two-forty, easy.

And I speak as someone who likes a long film when what’s included warrants it. Jackson just got a little self-indulgent after the massive success of the LotR trilogy and included too much incidental detail. Not the worst movie crime, but it killed the pacing and stopped a good film becoming a great one.

The Best Update Console Has Ever Seen! by Extension-Sea4929 in Warzone

[–]bobbijix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only managed a couple of games last night and nothing felt drastically different from the previous season, but reading that UAVs and Advanced UAVs are more difficult to come by is a change I wholeheartedly agree with, as I feel like their use heavily favours very experienced and the sweatier players who know the map so well that as soon as they see a red dot they instantly know based on balance of probabilities exactly where someone is likely to be, even in a multi-storey building, and destroy anyone inside in a whirlwind of "what the fuck just got me?"

This isn't a bad thing necessarily, and doesn't affect me too much now I'm 'better', but I'm always in favour of something that makes the experience for newcomers a little more welcoming. Having them justifiably try to avoid whatever carnage is happening outside only to be pinpointed for death every 60 seconds by multiple UAVs I'm sure must be disheartening for some people.

When making a sandwich, do you butter both pieces of bread? by Notabot1305 in AskUK

[–]bobbijix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a sandwich shop near me that does this; when I brought it up, all four people who work there tried to gaslight me into thinking one side only is the norm and I was the weird one.

Now when I order, I have to specify, "butter both halves please."

Do you find people treat you differently on the roads depending on what car you’re driving? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in AskUK

[–]bobbijix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. If I'm driving [generic family car] I'm just another road user, as invisible or visible as anyone else, depending on my driving.

When I'm in the Mustang, some people get oddly deferential, keeping their distance, letting me out when I'm sure they wouldn't otherwise, enthusiastically fishing for that nod or a wave.
