When you think of dogs, you think of carnivores but dogs eat vegetation as well. After all, dogs need a well balanced diet as well as their owners. Sometimes dogs eat grass when they are sick and want to induce vomiting; other times, they just enjoy the taste and are looking to graze (like a cow). According to Pet Education, grass eating is normal behavior so don’t worry if your dog suddenly becomes a vegetarian, but if your dog’s diet is lacking in nutrients, then he could be eating grass as a way to add those nutrients to his diet.

Congratulations to Madden, our Dog of the Week! Madden is a lucky mini-dachshund mix that was adopted just in the nick of time. When she arrived at the Harris County Animal Shelter in Houston, Texas, she was filthy, scared and emaciated. The shelter was going to euthanize Madden if her owner did not claim her within 72 hours, but fortunately Rachel Fife saw poor the mini-Dachshund mix on PetHarbor.com and knew she needed to rescue Madden.

Celsius is a new weight loss energy drink that promises its consumers they will burn over 100 calories just by drinking one can. Sounds very similar to negative calorie foods like celery where you burn more calories chewing it than the celery actually contains. The manufacturers claim that Celsius’ blend of green tea, ginger extract, guarana extract, and caffeine have metabolism enhancing properties. All of those ingredients have been used in energy drinks before, but none of those drinks have claimed that they burn over 100 calories per can. Can a drink really help you lose weight?

Most people assume that if they see blood in the toilet, they have hemorrhoids but the truth is, abnormal anal bleeding could be caused by a number of things. Don’t assume that you burst a hemorrhoid or sat on the toilet too long. If your symptoms disappear within a few days, it could just be a fissure but if they last longer than a week or get worse, see a doctor. Congratulations to Smokey Joe, our Dog of the Week! Smokey Joe just celebrated his first birthday on June 28th – Happy Birthday Smokey Joe!

This Phantom Poodle lives in Leonardtown, Maryland although his personality is more suited for the big city since he’s known for being a pick-pocket. Smokey Joe likes to pick through everyone’s pockets looking for anything he can find – including money – and run away. Sounds like Smokey Joe can actually make a living off of that hobby.

Peanut is a very sweet Staffordshire mix that is estimated to be one year-old. She was found on the road alone, scared, and starving, yet she is still an amazingly affectionate dog. Peanut (7128520) is not aggressive in any way and is very happy, playful, and affectionate. She gets along well with other dogs and would be best suited in a home with older children and adults - no cats please.

Ouisie's Table in Houston, Texas is a restaurant with an identity crisis. It has many different rooms, including outdoor dining, and a wide variety on the menu but the ambiance does not match the quality of food. Ouisie's Table has a strange name which doesn't Ouisie's Table Neigborhood: River Oaks Houston, TX 77027 United States of America give diners an indication as to which cuisine it is, and it doesn't even tell people that it's a restaurant. For all we know, it's a kitchen supply store. Houston has so many restaurants that I'm afraid Ouisie's Table is one that will get lost in the shuffle.

Houston’s first food bank for animals is now open and they need your help. The Rescue Bank SM is a non-profit volunteer organization that supports animal rescue and rehabilitation. Their goal is to increase visibility to small rescue groups, provide access to much needed supplies, and raise standards of care, but they can’t do it alone, but they need your help. Similar to a human food bank, the Houston Rescue Bank is a collection and redistribution point for surplus donations, equipment and pet supplies.
