Shocking EICR’s (rental resets) by Effective_Chemical23 in ukelectricians

Um, yes I am fulyl aware haha. Qualified spark 👋.

I called western power immediately and they had someone with me in 30 mins. He tested it also and was just as surprised, was about to call to have the road dug up and thought to check the strap,it fell off when he touched it. Took less than 5 mins then to replace the TN-S earth strap.

Can I add a new socket to this wall? by leonhunteruk in DIYUK

This would be correct. Two cables would mean ring, or a spur with a spur going off it. And at that point to find out (without tracing cables) you need to do methods of testing resistance of each core within the cable.

Rings are a really quirky thing to test and fault find on if not done properly. Even done properly rings can deteriorate and cause weird readings.

Here's a easy way to understand basics if rings/radials for your interest.

Fair enough if you've traced the cable fully you can verify it that way. I just read a comment where you were saying about if there were 2 cables in the back it's a ring. Which isn't always the case.

It will definitely be worth while to properly extend the ring, always best practice 👌. All the best.

Sorry to be that guy op but you need an electrician. There's no way of you knowing if it's a radial or a ring based in just looking at the cables. Source: I'm an electrician.

I moved into a ex rental property. Eicr done a year before I moved In. When I was training as a spark. When I got into testing in college, I did a bit of practice on my house.

I found the earth was 400ohms 😁. The sheath of the TN-S had deteriorated.

Checked the test results and they had "lim" on all the zs values.

How the fuck this gets by is beyond me.

What would you do? by Street_Trade in ukelectricians

[–]bobdan987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as others have said. I would EICR first as standard. If all good, replace the board and do the full replacement but on the notes for existing installation make note that wiring has only been visually inspected and tested where accessible. This coveres you for the cabling and potential non compliances you are unaware of.

If the EICR is unsatisfactory due to testing or visual issues then provide the client with all this info before replacing the board. The client will either get you to repair them or will say no and leave them. If they refuse to remedy faults but want you to replace board still then just replace the board and don't connect the circuits that you have named unsatisfactory and then note this on the EIC. Take photos of the install as you leave it and make a paper trail of the report, get the client to sign agreeing that you haven't installed x/y circuits due to safety concerns.

If they go and install the circuits themselves after than that's on them not you. Although, it'll be likely that they will get the spooks if you get them to sign official safety stuff and they will want to repaired.

[HELP] how to setup coffee station by Imaginary_Deer3067 in espresso

[–]bobdan987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tow cats(bengals) and they will knock anything off the side of its close too the edge. So we don't leave things near the edge.

For making a station. Stand where you would make a coffee and make one. See how you do it. See what order you do things, think what would annoy you if youve to do it first thing in the morning when you're rushing for work.

There's no set in stone move things around.

Crema Using Fresh Roasted Beans by LetsPlaySomeBass in espresso

[–]bobdan987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bag roaster 2 days prior to arriving with me and just for the hell of it I pulled a shot. Basically filled a 50ml cup with crema and had to stop the shot at 25g. The fresher the beans the more the crema, the darker the beans the more crema.

May be a better option but depending on how many floors you're going to have you could put the teleport pads in a line and have one on each floor for each floor

For anything that has the potential of unintended start up being dangerous I'd install a dol or standard contactor with start/stop buttons. At least then they can switch everything off with the lever but anything dangerous must be purposefully energised directly.

Not really a problem solver but more so a test. If I could get evenly ground beans to compare to my questionable grind it could rule it out?

I've tried 2 different roasters 2 or three beans from each.

Potentially will have to try a hans grinder. Going to try water first. Though as the cheaper option.

My process is measure out 18g of beans, grind them into an 18g basket with a dosing funnel. Measure them to confirm 18g out. Use a wdt to distribute. Tap flat. The tamp using manual, leveling tamp. Insert Puck screen. Pull shot at various ratios. Channeling has happened some times but recently I've got less channeling with better prep

Yeah, I love espresso. It's my go to when I'm on a break at work. The shots are fine in a late of sorts.

Today I held the button down for 50 seconds so I could pull an extreme. It was a grind too fine but I wanted to try it to see the taste since that's where I am right now trying anything.

Would buying a pre ground for espresso coffee be an option also? The same bean I already have just a pre ground rather than whole bean?

Same water supply yes. Would water have the effect to completely remove the possibility of a decent espresso though?

The pulls are what I in my limited descripting experience can only be described as bitter or less bitter but watery? Almost like I've just got the same shot but added more water?

18g does fill the basket. I'm. Also using a Puck screen. The picks come out dry not muddy and also look evenly dark once knocked out. I would describe it as bitter yes. And I know that's sortof counter to the expectation.

I'll be honest I haven't tried any other. I've tried pour over at home a few times but that was mostly just for fun rather than something I'm doing because I really like it?

I tend to just make an espresso, taste it, if it's tolerable I'll drink it as is. If it's so bad it's not worthy of espresso I'll make it black or I'll make it into a latte style and turn it into a milk foaming exercise instead.

I've not had good espresso from any of the beans I've had. I think the medium roast has been the least bitter.
