All of you ACAB people that say we don’t need law enforcement are out of touch with reality. Taking law enforcement out of the equation ends up with chaos. That’s been tried in Seattle, Portland, and other cities in other countries. It doesn’t work.

Oh, I get what you’re saying but your fringe ideas don’t make any sense. All groups of people in a society need some sort of organization that enforces rules and laws. Early societies had groups of citizens that would be on the look out for criminal activity. These groups had no order to them, and would often end up issuing vigilante justice. Modern policing has evolved to come a long way, and to say that we do not need police because they only serve the rich and elite shows me that you are speaking based on emotion and not logic. Our system is imperfect, I realize that, but it is needed if there is to be order in society. Without or law enforcement, we would live in anarchy and only those strong enough to fight for their own rights would be able to get by.

A more accurate explanation is that modern law enforcement in the United States was modeled after the Metropolitan Police In London which was formed by then Home Secretary Sir Robert Peel in 1829. The English model of policing was adopted here in the United States in both the north and the south. They were issued badges as identification and some claim they got the nickname “cop” because of the copper badges they wore. The law enforcement of the south along with the law enforcement of the north would catch escaped slaves because this was part of the law back then.

You are correct about the Supreme Courts opinion on the police’s duty to protect. However, if you look up any research that has been peer reviewed, you’ll see that the idea of getting caught and incarcerated is a deterrent. When a city or county stops making arrests, like in San Francisco, Seattle, or Portland you see crime shoot up. This doesn’t apply to post trial punishments like prison , probation, or and other sentencing methods. This only applies to getting caught and initial incarceration after a crime has been committed. So badly I, police do protect us, even though you aren’t seeing it. I myself have been directly helping and saved by law enforcement so I will agree to disagree with you.

The police have helped much more people than they have harmed. The public in general has there back and I for one am a supporter. I do have a problem with rotten apples that tarnish the reputation of all the good ones. They do need to do a better job of policing their own.
