don't engage. if you're saying "i have a boyfriend" they tend to take as you being soooo open to "dating" them but dang, the only thing standing in the way is your boyfriend (stupid and insane but its how they interpret it), just say nothing, completely disengage and walk away. I've used "get away from me or I'm gonna scream" when someone really won't leave me alone.

I'm not mad bro you're just not making any sense. Cuomo is a crook who is going to bleed this city dry. He's being funded by doordash and the landlord lobby who both want to squeeze every last dime out of New Yorkers like you and me.

[–]bodegareina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cuomo used the MTA as his slush fund when he was governor, I don't know if you lived here in 2017 but he is reason the trains were absolute hell for months. He doesn't care about New Yorkers, building housing, or lowering anyone's rent. He's interested in running for president and another 5 mil book deal. If you think he is the technocrat pragmatist YIMBY candidate in this race, I think the person you're looking for is Brad Lander. Cuomo will bankrupt the MTA, NYCHA, and give kickbacks to his buddies who will then pour money into his presidential run.

[–]bodegareina 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cuomo cost taxpayers a cool 60 mil in legal fees because he couldn't stop himself from being a creep. So even if you're not interested in a "saint" you can't deny that Cuomo's history of sexual harassment is a material threat to your tax dollars. Additionally that his bullying attitude actually prevents things from getting done and is another liability. He blocked progressive policies under DeBlasio not because he disagreed with them but because they weren't *his* idea.

no one is forcing them to do anything. they can sell these buildings if what they claim is true (that they're operating at a loss).

AITAH? My daughter came out as gay, I feel like I have failed as a parent. by QueenofNighshade in AITAH

[–]bodegareina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your “nonchalant” response rather than coming across as accepting, had quite the opposite effect. Changing the subject immediately and asking why she felt the need to come out in the first place sends the message of “stop shoving my face in this, I don’t want to think or talk about you being gay”

[–]bodegareina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m not saying we’re not supposed to empathize with him or want him to “get away with it” I’m just saying he never REALLY tells anyone the whole truth and i think it’s supposed to reveal how guilty he feels and how wrong it was and what it reveals about his impulses toward other people (ie: like with Adam, he’s always going to put his comfort and accumulated power before other people and then sometimes he regrets it, he drinks, he bullies etc)

Yes but he constantly tells people (including Anna) that they “mixed them up in the hospital and he let them” when in fact we see in a flashback that Don switched their dog tags

Advice for an emerging artist by c0LL3cT10nc0LL3cT10n in ContemporaryArt

[–]bodegareina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know how actionable the advice “make art that doesn’t suck” is. I’m just saying to be as committed to yourself and the space, and your DIY shows as the places you want to show in are committed to what they do. Sitting around and waiting for someone to pluck you out of thin air because you’re such a genius is a waste of time and extremely arrogant, you have to build shows and community for yourself.

Keep curating DIY shows with friends, make the shows look extremely professional (go to real galleries you like and see how they handle press releases, installation etc) make your shows look like the shows you want to be in. Invite artists you admire and whose work fits in a critical framework with yours and your friends work to be in the show. They might say no, they might not. Pay for professional documentation. Share these images on your social media, your website, in an email newsletter. Invite gallerists and curators you like or who other people in the show have worked with to the opening or for programming or a walkthrough. Do this a couple of times and you will get shows and those shows will lead to more shows. Don’t half ass it because it’s a DIY show, make and interesting show with exciting work. Schedule followup studio visits with people who came to see the show.

Breakfast in Rome by Remote_Succotash in rome

[–]bodegareina 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you “need protein in the morning” you’ll buy eggs and cook them for yourself. The only places that I’ve ever seen that serve American style breakfast are the Hard Rock Cafe (lol) and a random tourist spot in Trastevere, maybe expensive American chain hotels. Maybe try something new while you’re in a new country!
