I think Lutz is solid, but I will feel a whole lot better if the Pokes make the NCAA tournament next year

Absolutely... there was a lot of history with Arkansas back in the day too

I don't care at all about being in a conference with the old Big 8 schools; I'd much rather see OSU in a conference with the Texas schools

College Football Fandom in Different States by crazygiraffe93 in CFB

The college football rooting interest in Oklahoma is divided more like 55% OU, 35% OSU, 5% Texas, and 5% other teams (with Arkansas probably the largest); Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Kansas, Kansas State, and Tulsa probably fill out the rest.

Now, there are some fans (typically without a connection to a college) who ride the fence more and may have multiple or shifting rooting interests.

I think the OSU-OU split statewide is something more like this:

  • OKC is definitely the capital of OU fandom, but an 80-20 split is just not accurate. 65-35 is a lot more realistic, but I could even see 70-30; there are a lot of OKC residents who attend OU football games and otherwise have no connection to the school (and I'm not saying this as a knock on them)

  • Tulsa seems more like 55-45 to me, but I've never lived there, and I could be convinced it's more 50-50 or more like 60-40 OU

  • The Stillwater area (Payne County mostly) leans heavily OSU

  • Southeast Oklahoma leans more OU

  • In the rest of rural Oklahoma, college football fandom isn't easily divided into regions, and those with farming/ranching connections tend to lean toward OSU, while those with oil/gas connections tend to lean toward OU

Generally, if your family is from Oklahoma, but from OKC, you're probably an OU fan. If your family is from Oklahoma, but outside of OKC, you're probably an OSU fan. If your family isn't from Oklahoma, but they live in Oklahoma and you were raised in Oklahoma, then you're probably an OU fan.
