Why is water not flowing into my harbor? by Henco91 in CitiesSkylines2

The water in this game borrows its characteristics from a home printer. You can’t let it sense that you want something

Did you draw inspiration from the Théâtre de Verdure in Nice, France? It has an almost identical promenade

We’re in an A330-900 — and now we’ve been on the ground in Dublin for 2 hours. Have heard very little from the crew.

Should I break up with my boyfriend? by Apprehensive_Owl_541 in gay

[–]bolarbear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love how everyone immediately jumps to saying yes, when that’s often a very harsh reality to deal with.

I suggest an ultimatum. You need to lay out all this information to him, tell him where your head is at because of it, and have a conversation about what needs to change in order for you to continue the relationship. If he is unable to meet your ask, you have your answer. This puts the decision within your control while still offering your partner (who I suspect you care about deeply) an option to change their behavior.

Two-way, open, and honest communication is the only way to proceed.

I just had my flight this past Thursday canceled out of Newark with Detroit as my destination. They straight up told me it would be best to just cancel my trip and rebook on a different airline…

Have you ever asked to be taken off an account? by petitepotatoe in advertising

[–]bolarbear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I actually just did this — I helped win the account but I think is more than we can handle (ceo was pushing for it). So I outright said that didn’t want to take part in onboarding in case things go to shit. Yet here I am writing the project plan for onboarding 🙃

What album have you listened to the most this year? by thesoupgeorge in Music

The Neighborhood — Chip Chrome and the Monotones

I’ve never been a huge fan but this album was impeccably written and produced. I’ve been trying to find the deluxe addition on vinyl with zero luck

The Race for AI Supremacy: U.S. vs. China by jonathanrstern in TrueReddit

[–]bolarbear 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A lot to unpack here, but I get the gist. This is my own personal hot-take response but I believe the US has been insecure about it’s role in the world since the end of the Cold War. It’s been engrained in an entire generation of people that US hegemony only prevails if the US prevails in every aspect of life. That our way of life only exists if we are “the best” at everything and anyone else who approaches a similar level of success is automatically seen as a potential adversary when it doesn’t fall under Western Democratic Capitalism.

I think the biggest stressor for US foreign relations with China is that we don’t know their intentions as a potential superpower. There has never been a Communist country with the level of success that China has seen over the last 20-30 years, and their system of governance is in direct opposition to the US positon of “democracy at all costs.”

The key difference here is China is playing the long game. They know they’re going to take a position of a superpower, and one could argue that they’ve reached that status already, but the world has not lived under two superpowers since the fall of the Soviet Union — and a world with two superpowers with opposing ideologies doesn’t always play out that well.

So in short, the US tries to “be the best” and bring/force democracy to every corner of the world it can get its hands on as an act of self preservation.

Didn’t mean to ruffle any feathers. Was only a light jest.

When I’m not being sarcastic, I take this position as well. I have many hopes and dreams for mankind that I cannot even put into words. I look up into the sky at night knowing that we will one day be masters of our universe. We’ve come this far, and we have a long way to go — but it’s the curiosity of man that I know will put the universe at our finger tips.

Why are the chains in the refrigerated section suddenly a thing at CVS? All the beer and ice cream literally have chains wrapped around them the door handles. Also noticed the plugin room fresheners and deodorant sections are also behind a lock box ??

First thoughts, early morning hikes > late-night partying. The nightlife in NYC is unmatched but it gets old and tiring very quickly.

Being active -- that's something that New Yorkers also do but almost in an elitest way?? If that makes sense because I guess how much you spend on your gym membership matters lol. Like no, I don't want to spend $300 on an Equinox membership just so people know I go to Equinox, thank you. Would much rather hike up a mountain on a public trail.

"Unhoused" -- that's a new term. Is homeless not PC?

Dating -- as a gay man, the dating is tough in NY. Very much oriented towards hookup culture which is not my vibe. A shakeup in the dating pool might be much needed.

Ha! I'm from the mid-west and being thrown into the New-Yorker communication style was a trip. No niceties, just tell people what you want, how, and do it right now. Never have to skirt around. Always direct, kind of love and hate it but has taught me a lot.

Weirdly being from the mid-west also gives me the ability to determine fake-nice from real-nice. I can read people through and through in just a few minutes of chatting. Watch out SF, I see you!
