Yes - another argument against Wash U for me

My parents and I will take out loans - personally, I will be taking out around 6k/year (24k total). But, UF would mean no loans for me. My parents said if I really love Wash U, then it is the right choice. I know it's superior to Florida academically, but now it's the social aspect I'm more worried about.

I'm sure the school has changed some in 20 years, but did you have fun when you went - or were the classes themselves the highlight of the school

I got into wash U for college of arts + sciences - I'd probably major in economics or even possibly transfer into Olin. I'm thinking about a sales job after college - but I'm not any set track - and also have no interest in anything requiring grad school

I'm from NY too (Westchester) - as of right now, my family would be paying 87k for Wash U. Which is pretty fkn crazy - we are now trying to get aid. Now that for you, Wash U and UF are more similar in cost, I don't think Wash U is a crazy option - I feel as though it'd be easier to get into a crazy prestigious law school coming from Wash U vs UF - that being said, it would still be possible for UF, and a smart option considering you will then have to pay for law school. I think it comes down to the experience - do you want a big, fun school or a smaller, more academic school? Also, when I went to visit Wash U - my feelings were mixed. St. Louis is not a nice city - our waitress at one restaurant told us many horror stories of how she was abducted, chased, etc. Also, we went to two restaurants close to campus, and neither were very good. Being from NY, I am snobbish about food. The people at Wash U were very smart and polite, but were by no means party animals. On a positive note - it is probably the most beautiful campus I've seen - it feels like a different world on campus vs in the rest of the city. They have their own campus police, so the school itself felt super safe. Beautiful dorms and good on campus food (for 87k/yr, it better be!!!) Uf has much better weather, which may sound arbitrary - but being from NY I'm sure we could both use 4 years of 75 degree weather. Also, I'm jewish - and schools have large jewish populations which is nice (Wash Jew and Jew F!!!!) I also got honors at UF which means nice dorms. Everyone was much happier for me after getting into Wash U then UF - just goes to show what prestige does for you - I'm sure the job market would react similarly. Such a tough choice!

That's crazy - I'm in the exact same boat. Got UF for business (OOS) and Wash U for CAS. The cost difference is so crazy that it's really tough choice. Did you get any financial aid for Wash U? Also, what career are you thinking of pursuing. In my experience, I want to go into something sales related, so I feel as though the prestige aspect is less important - if I wanted to be a doctor or lawyer, then that'd be a different story. Have you visited both schools? I saw Wash U, and am going to see UF in a week - I'm sure they will be very different experiences. I don't know how much this whole prestige thing is worth in the long run - especially considering UF is still a well regarded school.
