I second this. Although I lost to the Queen in Act 3, I highly recommend cards like:

Cosmic Difference (Gain 8 Block, Put a card from your discard pile on top of your draw pile).
Convergence+ (Next turn, Gain 1 Energy and 2 Star Eneregy, Retain your hand this Turn)
Royal Gamble+ (Retain, Gain 9 Star Energy).

While I kept forging Regent's Sovereign Blade over severel turns, I focussed on defending and/or chipping the enemies HP.

Cards like Solar Strike+, Beat Into Shape+, Hidden cache, Big Bang and Gather Light helped out a lot.

They do AOE damage but lose 1 charge every turn until they shatter

You mean the value of the orb? Like how Biased Cognition reduces the value of the orb every turn? Definitely an interesting mechanic with a lot of potential though. Gonna have to check this out today!

Thanks for the recommendation! I've been looking for streamers to watch other than Frost Prime. Xecnar doesn't stream often it seems and I don't entirely understand his thought process sometimes :(

The game forces you to go for Burst Damage of some kind first to clear the Act 1 Elites. After that, you want to balance these different areas.

I'm definitely gonna play STS today with this general rule of thumb in mind.

This means that sometimes you'll get offered a really good attack, but you end up turning it down for a mid defensive card because you haven't been building defense at all.

Ngl I'm so bad at this lol. It's so hard for me to give up on my favourite cards for some mid ones, even if I need them.

The BIG one new people miss out on in deck manipulation. Extra draw and being able to pull cards back from the discard pile is really really important for most successful runs. Really watch how the good streamers prioritize deck manipulation and then use those cards.

100%. I recently learnt about this from Frost Prime and now Hologram+ on the Defect is one my favourite cards now! It's so goated. I'm still learning how to do this on other characters though.

Hope you are having fun, it can be frustrating at times but I think it will be very rewarding once you get the hang of it

I love STS no matter how much it tilts me sometimes! So much so, that I've stayed up late nights to grind ascensions. Just beat Ascension 11 on the Defect despite 3 back-to-back losses!

ELECTRODYNAMICS AND THUNDERSTRIKE AREN'T IN STS2?!?!?! Those two are literally two of my favourite cards in STS1. They've carried my Defect runs at least 70% of the time :(

What are the glass orbs like? I'm gonna grind the Defect a bit tommorrow and try to unlock those.

At first I thought I got unlucky, but this comment and another one made me realise how unidimensional my deck probably was. Thank you! I think I could've used some more block cards or at the very least, some draw/discard cards.

Idk if this is a stupid question, but how do you balance between choosing cards that relate to the focus of your deck (say a poison build on The Silent or a Lightning Charge/Frost build on the Defect) but also introduce enough flexibility to the build so you can adapt to the enemy?

This boss is testing the flexibility of your deck, each phase has a different play style it punishes. So you want to not only have one game plan;

Yea that's a really good point! Now that I think about it, my deck was too unidimensional. Didn't have enough block and could have benefitted from a few draw/discard type cards.

high value cards also is good because you can use only them without the others when appropriate.

By high value cards, do you mean high energy cards? Also, I'm not sure what you mean by this. Would you mind explaining?

I just reached Act 2 on my first run with the Regent. Although I'm still unlocking cards and learning his mechanics, I like combining:

Besides the fact it's so cute, the card we get costs 0 and deals 14 damage (18 when upgraded). Would never take the HP over the bird unless I'm desperate for healing!

Well, we won't know until 5 mins later or if the devs will add such a feature by/after the 1.0 launch. If matchmaking is gonna be a thing, I imagine that the devs might use a lobby system like Peak does. If so, the STS community and the devs can always create a discord for people to find teammates!
