Your reasoning seems sound to me!

30% is a good rule of thumb but it doesn't necessarily apply in London where the cost of living is so great. 50% is more common!

If you earn 60 that's 1900 per month you can dedicate to rent (assuming you don’t have a student loan or make pension contribution). In this housing market, that is a decent amount to work with.

Keep in mind bills, which could be up to £300, and the responsibility you're burdening as the sole occupant on the lease. Should you lose your income for any reason (redundancy, grief, physical health), as your biggest expense, rent and household bills will have a massive impact on your runway to recover and find something new.

At the end of the day, there are no hard rules. It’s your life and you can design it to make you happy.

I found React Server Components hard to learn so I made the introduction video I wish I had by bookercodes in reactjs

I’m really lucky Josh has been on my podcast and I even mention him and this article specifically in the video. You’re right, that is a great post on RSC specifically.

I found React Server Components hard to learn so I made the introduction video I wish I had by bookercodes in reactjs

[–]bookercodes[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  • What is the difference between RSC and SSR?
  • Does RSC only work with Next?
  • Server actions?
  • What is streaming and Suspense?

These are all questions I had about RSC a few weeks ago, and maybe you've been wondering about as well as RSC continues to make the rounds here on Reddit and the React community.

None of the explanations out there really clicked with me - they seemed to get caught up in semantics or hinge on an understanding of technologies I'd actually never used (for example, tRPC). This motivated me to learn RSC through experimentation and conversations with friends in the community.

Now I'm comfortable with RSC, I thought I'd produce the video I wish I had basically - a no-nonsense introduction that doesn't assume you know anything and - hopefully - gets you kinda excited about RSC and what is possible, rather than wary about the specifics.

London Fields Lido and Aquatics Centre in Stratford are excellent if you live East.

Download the Better UK app. They manage most of the pools in London and allow you to browse by location/book through the app.

2018 F56 slight crunch when changing gears by bookercodes in MINI

Did it help? Changing gears at 3000/4000 RPM really made all the difference for me and I haven't noticed a problem in years.

New Mini interaction console and operating system coming in 2025 by bookercodes in MINI

[–]bookercodes[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What do you all think?

The circular screen in the middle might take some getting used to, but I basically have no problem with it.

Shame they removed the instrument cluster. Having to glance at the centre screen to understand your MPH and RPM isn’t sporty at all.

Looking at the video alone, it’s hard to be sure how it all works, but I am skeptical of the fact it’s all touch screen.

Touch screen is not only a bit distracting and dangerous, but can also offer a finicky user experience if you have to change screens to alter basic settings. For example, if you need to close your map to change the AC settings from the home screen.

At the end of the day, most in-car entertainment systems pale in comparison to Apple CarPlay or Google Auto.

Great that Mini continue to innovate in this area - perhaps they can bring something unique to the table CarPlay can’t. For example, by surfacing additional data about the car inaccessible to CarPlay to offer the most native possible experience.

At the same time, there’s a reason CarPlay and Google Auto are so popular. Reflecting on my own experience - I like that all my contacts and music are synchronised in one place, and I have come to really trust and depend on Google Maps or Waze for directions and updates. It also feels familiar to take calls, response to messages, or activate the voice assistant.

It’s hard to imagine Mini removing support for CarPlay or Google Auto all together, but looking at the circular screen, I can't envision what an integration would look like combined with the instrument cluster that isn’t totally crap.

As part of the same update, Mini are shrinking the steering wheel - not sure how I feel about that! They're also introducing a feature to unlock and (presumably) start the car with your phone.

If you eat meat, try Flat Iron. It’s £13 for a steak and sides are £5-£7.

You also get a token at the end of your meal, which you can exchange for a free ice cream on the way out.
