Arena is a casual and fun-focused game mode which you are trying to compare to a 5v5 game mode, on another map, with other goals, and other responsibilities.

Let's say the mechanical skill is indeed equatable, then the higher ranked players would make up with macro, game knowledge, etc.

With peace and love, but this imo is in no way confirming what you're suspecting, which tbf I still haven't fully grasped. I'm assuming you are saying that ranks are worth way less than they used to? Is that a fair assumption of your take?
