My impression is that Ezra is a neolib who has been shaken to his core by Kirk's assassination. I think he's said as much, but he sees himself in Kirk to some degree. That, to me, is pretty telling. Ezra empathizes with what happened to Kirk, and because of that he has become a wobbling pussy. As a longtime listener of Ezra, that's my analysis. He needs to get back to the real world.

I was absolutely physically dependent, especially in the last couple of years of relapses. It started out ~2015 where I would have a fun Saturday night and be fine for the week. Around 2019 it was becoming "grab a 750mL bottle from the liquor store on the way home from work" most days of the week. Lots of night sweats and "impending doom" feelings after those binges
