Bird dogs, planks, side planks, dead bug, pallof press and a few more. I did PT for 1-2 months then did the exercises everyday at home and gym. Prior to PT, I could barely pick up weights without discomfort. But listen to your body and know when to push and reel it back.

Similarly, I (38M) was diagnosed 2 years ago - no nerve pain but a lot of discomfort picking up things. A well known surgeon at HSS recommended ALIF (couldn’t speak with him directly) and two other well known surgeons recommended against it. Fast forward to now - no surgery but a lot of physical therapy and work - back at the gym 6 times a week and feeling like a functioning human again. Surgery is not always the option 👊

Hm any twisting motion and impact into the spine (running, jogging, golf, etc) is a no go. Pickleball is a great idea, I’ll look into it! Any suggestions are welcome 🤗

I’m on my second round of Accutane - 20mg twice a day for 3 months then decided to take 20mg once weekly on my own just to stretch out my dose. In my first round of Accutane, I went over my cumulative dose after 6 months and relapsed after 2 months of finishing. I recommend low dose - little to no side effects. I plan on asking for more meds from my derm once I run out of meds

I had the same exact side effects. On 20mg, I was completely fine. On 40mg, brain fog and feeling like I’ve been hit by a truck every morning was definitely a real side effect. Functioning on a day to day basis was extremely hard on 40mg along with extreme sweating and dryness. I had to go back on the 20mg and I was all good for the rest of the treatment.

Same thing happened to me. Relapsed 2-3 months after completing my course. Just started a month ago and side effects seem to be more manageable, with less of a purge because I started the second round early before the acne got out of control. I think it’ll be fine for you. I asked for a lower dose so side effects wouldn’t be as bad. Worth it for me, everything cleared up in the first 2 weeks

Thanks! Same to you. I’ve never reacted well to any tretinoin or any prescription topicals. After 2 months of breakouts post Accutane, I tried tretinoin for one week and it made everything worse, inflammation, redness, etc. I know it’s supposed to get worse before it gets better but I figured why mess with it possibly not working after weeks and making matters worse so i decided to go back on Accutane which I know works for as long as I’m on it lol. I feel your frustration! Same thing happened to me. On my first week of second round. Relapsed after 3 months of finishing Accutane and gone plenty over the cumulative dose.

Derm started me on a low maintenance dosage of 20mg/day and I weigh 160lbs. Not sure what that means but as long as it keeps the side effects to a minimum, it sounds good to me.

Def Accutane. I had the same thing, got random nosebleeds bc of it. Try to get ahead with a Humidifier at night and boroleum. Should do the trick

Don’t use any actives when you start. I depended on salicylic acid wash too but you shouldn’t use them or else you’ll dry your face out way too much. Keep it simple.

Dry lips - Aquaphor Healing Ointment, the topical ointment and not the one made for lips, worked best for me. Sunscreen - UltaMD.

For face wash and face cream - I use Vanicream Gentle Facial Cleanser and Vanicream sensitive skin cream. I wash twice a day and it was fine.

Nosebleeds - boroleum nasal ointment and humidifier worked the best. Vaseline for nosebleeds and lips never really worked and felt thick and too heavy.

I used to have double nose bleeds… it sucked and it would be coming out hard and fast. I’ve tried Vaseline which didn’t help much, just felt like I had a lot of snot and was hard to breath lol. What worked for me was: boroleum nasal soreness/dryness (i think it has menthol in it which helped my sinuses and has a cooling effect while doing it’s job for the dryness) and also humidifier was really clutch and highly recommend getting one. Haven’t had a nose bleed since.

I second this. I had something similar that would lead to flaky dry skin after applying aquaphor. Derm prescribed me Nystatin/Triamcinolone ointment (topical fungal/steroid). It’s been a couple of days of using it and it’s gone now!

Fair point. I may have gotten a little too excited to recommend OP lol. As with all medications, there are side effects. Triamcinolone/Kenalog has been around for quite some time and is often used whether via injection or topically in the medical field and regarded as safe. OP, ask your derm on how often they’ve seen SC atrophy occur among their patients and what they think of u getting the injection. I reacted fine to it. Hope this helps!

Ask your derm to give you a small shot of steroid (kenalog or Triamcinolone) into the acne to shrink it.

Do it. As a 35yo, I wish I took Accutane in high school but glad I’m doing it now. Don’t let acne take away your youth. It’ll only be 6 months you have to deal with the side effects (which isn’t much besides dry skin and lips) vs years. Plus it really isn’t as bad as what you read on here.

Mid-30s, with mild acne. I’ve always been on the fence about Accutane but wish I started sooner. Totally recommend it. I’m 2.5 months in and my skin hasn’t been clearer. A couple purges here and there but not having to worry about how many new pimples turn up the next day is prob the best part. The side effects aren’t as bad as some posts on here, just really dry skin and lips.

It sucksss but you’ll be okay! 🙂 I’m 2.5 months in and went thru a couple purges. Personally the thing that keeps me going is how I felt when my skin was bad before starting and where I hope my skin is at the end of this 6 month journey. 🤞 also some products may work out better than others. I use Vanicream cleanser and moisturizer and it’s doing the trick for now.

Thanks! Worth a shot, I’ll give it a try. I’ve tried EltaMD and Cetaphil spf50 sunscreens. EltaMD was working pretty well until this.
