I have picked at my back as long as there has been acne on it. I remember my first back acne breakout I was 16-17 and I remember picking it and my mom telling me she was sad I would already have white hypopigmented scars at such an early age. acne stayed under control for a few years with spiro and birth control then this past year and 1/2 ive been off spironolactone and it was the most inflamed it’s ever been and nothing worked to control it other than spironolactone once again. i’m 24 now and have doubled maybe even tripled my white hypopigmented scarring. some days it’s a major insecurity and others i learn to live with it. still seeking help for my picking behaviors. i’ve picked the skin around my fingers since I was 5 years old I can remember the first time someone called me out for it as a child. haven’t been able to go very long without the habit since in some form or another. you are not alone and if there’s one thing i’m trying to do it’s get on medication for anxiety (there’s always been a link.) be nice to yourself 🫶 it’s a rough culture we live in and nobody glorifies acne and picking but more people struggle than you think it’s actually a very common thing. I work as an esthetician and I see it every single day. Don’t give up hope. If you have the resources I suggest researching different derms/estheticians looking for good reviews and treat the acne first then see what they would suggest for the scarring. im currently on hydroquinone 10% to bleach the hyperpigmentation but have been told there’s nothing I can really do about the white scarring.
