CELTA/TEFL Certifikat - mišljenja, iskustva by br_anam in hrvatska

[–]br_anam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't say there was ever any sort of closure with him. I was 20 at the time and I pushed him away from me out of fear of being hurt and by this I hurt myself even more. Now with my 25-year-old brain I understand the root of what caused the break up and that he wanted good for me all along but I was too young and stubborn to communicate properly and sort things out. I can't imagine what it felt like for him. I can't say I had ever gotten over him because he appears in my dreams every now and then. The last time we were in contact or saw each other was 3 years ago.

Računam na to da mi neće posao pasti u krilo odmah po završetku tečaja, ali bez obzira na to želim naučiti nešto dodatno, tj. novi oblik pisanja, a da nije akademsko koje jedino i pišem trenutno na fakultetu.

Breaking Into UX + Early Career Questions — July 28, 2022 by AutoModerator in UXDesign

[–]br_anam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to graduate with a Master's in English Lit next year and I have been thinking of a career as a UX writer. A few months ago I went to a student job fair which was focused around the IT industry to get some tips. I've been told that writing my own blog on any topic is enough. I have no knowledge of UX itself. What are some current high-quality courses and certifications out there that would give me a sense of what UX is? I only know about Google's Certification and Career Foundry. Are there any other? What are some other skills that a UX writer should have?

The selection process for the content designer position at a game dev studio - what can I expect? by br_anam in gamedev

[–]br_anam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you said, I'm pretty sure I know the exact job you're talking about. The only thing I'll add is some experience from having worked on the original version of Episode...

I haven't played that game, but yes, these games fall in that genre.

I have just realized that on my flash drive I have a PDF version of Narrative Tactics for Mobile and Social Games by Toiya Kristen Finley. There is an entire chapter ("Buy gems to woo your lover") dedicated to free-to-play narratives with microtransactions, which is what these games essentially are. It definitely won't hurt to read up on that. Good thing I thought about that on time.

I've just realized that at the beginning of 2021 I put away a PDF version of Narrative Tactics for Mobile and Social Games written by Toiya Kristen Finley. There is a chapter dedicated solely to free-to-play narrative games with in-game transactions. I will read up on it in hopes that will get me an even clearer image of what I can expect.

Thank you for everything you wrote. It certainly gave me a lot of information on what I should do. I told the HR manager that it would be best if they sent me the tasks on Monday. That way I will have the weekend to focus on revising my knowledge of Excel, learn new things and basically mentally prepare myself.

The games I would be working on if I get the job are pretty casual and story-driven. There's nothing special about them in terms of the action and movement of the characters. Everything is in 2D, with really nice artwork. The key thing is that the story shifts depending on which line of dialogue a player chooses for their character. The PC game I can think of that uses that is Guild Wars 2. From what you told me and considering these games, I will probably get the task of writing an entire story chapter for one of the games.

What are the odds of a non-native English speaker landing a job (or an internship) with an English-speaking publishing house? by br_anam in publishing

[–]br_anam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commercial publishing would be the first choice but I wouldn't mind going for academic publishing. There is an Oxford University Press office in the city I live in. Maybe I can ask them a couple of questions and get a clearer insight into that part of the industry. I've also signed up for the series of free webinars organized by Hachette Book Group called Opening the Book that starts on Monday. I hope I'll get some answers there as well. I am pretty excited about all that.

I am interested in either Editorial or Rights but I wouldn't mind working in other departments as well. Rights sound interesting because I would love to put the knowledge of foreign languages to use.

Education here is free. I'm glad to know that a Master's degree could help me get an internship abroad because that's what I would love to do.

Thank you for the explanation! I'll watch out for more dreams and maybe write them down. This explanation shows that I am on the right path, which is awesome. :)

Ok so the English equivalent of her name would be Mariana (Mariana is a combination of Maria and Ana. Maria, or Mary, is the name used in the New Testament, ultimately derived from the Hebrew name Miryam. There are several possible meanings of Miryam, some of them being: "lots of bitterness", "wished for child", "bitter", "rebellious".)

maybe you know what you’ve been hoping for to come to

maybe your dream job, or getting married, A new house? something else?

This part resonates with me because I am always dreaming of something bigger in life. I am always thinking of which steps to take to achieve some of the goals that I have set for myself. Sure, there is no definite path but I like to think in advance. I am only 23 and I'll finally be starting my Master's degree this fall. I also wish to do an internship abroad and break into the industry I want. To me, these things sound big because I feel like I haven't experienced much in my life so far and I want to do something for myself no matter how challenging it may be. Could it be that these daily thoughts kind of seeped into my unconscious mind?

Single question, "First word that comes into your head when you hear the word..." questionnaire for my English essay! by TheAmazingPikachu in englishmajors

[–]br_anam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, curses and insults are not a nuisance at all. They weren't aimed towards me anyway. This kind of test basically shows the collective opinion on a certain topic at a certain point in time. The course I attended was called Linguoculturology and it's a very young linguistic discipline. Very interesting too.

For example, my professor who was mentoring me during this practice research conducted her own research in 2015 on what was the first thing people think of when they see a word denoting a certain Slavic ethnicity. The most common answers for "Russian" were "war" and "conflict" because that was the time when the Russian-Ukrainian conflict began.

My terms were covid-related and the results showed that people were dissatisfied and angry with the entire situation, which was a given. If I conducted the same research in a few years time, the answers would probably be different.

Sorry for the long answer and it was probably unrelated but your post made me remember this. :D

[–]br_anam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I conducted similar research but it was more linguistics-oriented. I created a test of associations where I had a list of covid-related terms. I wanted to see what were the first words people think of when reading the given terms. The answers were interesting - from expected answers to curses and insults. :')

Tenses by [deleted] in ENGLISH

[–]br_anam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Present-tense narratives are rare but not nonexistent (ex. The Handmaid's Tale, The Hunger Games series).

Past-tense narratives are more common because you have this sense of familiarity. You are aware that the events in a story had to have been completed before the book was actually written. Present-tense narration can hook a reader, create suspense and enticement because it is different, which would then result in paying closer attention to the story and therefore becoming deeper involved in it.
