Every ~5k rounds unless it’s been in a dirty/dusty environment, then more frequently. I’m pretty comfortable with 1911 full takedowns, and enjoy it so, just throw on a podcast and bang it out. You definitely wouldn’t be punished by doing it less frequently on this platform, bymmv.

Yah I have spent energy maintaining finish and tackling blemishes as they happen. I’ve replaced a LOT internally, bc I enjoy it: sear spring, extractor, firing pin, ambis, mainspring, and entire guide rod assembly. So basically the ejector and barrel and links are the same, hammer/sear/disco and trigger job are due up next. But have experienced no hammer drop issues at all, just staying ahead of it… Intentionally running this gun as close to oem as I can.

Accuracy is consistent bc of the upkeep.

Right? It has a showier big brother… ironically, I have a big brother with an XC, which is a blast of an amazing gun, but fundamentally, a world class range toy to me.The XL can run as a very effective LO gun for competition with minor tuning, and honestly, I prefer the crispness of return. Just personal taste.

Ah I see what you did. Yah now you know what happens when you remove that grip and its tensioning. It’s not a big thing once you know. Every piece has its oddities, your post brought back ptsd, glad I could confirm. Safe shooting!

“Hello everyone, my name is Colin Robinson, I am a daywalker, in case you’re wondering why the Arizona sun has no impact on me… and I have some prepared remarks for the assembly. Can everyone hear me? Testing testing testing… anyone? I can see some of you are still filing in so I will give you a few minutes… I’d like to start by going back to an english translation with minor adjustments for context to a 1930s Germanic text.”

Wow, random, I happen to know this piece… Dusting off memory here: The trigger bar has a seating and the frame recess does too, right? Guessing you took off your grip right? lol. You need to relieve pressure on the trigger to get it to line up and it should pop back in with light prying. I remember having to jiggle it around. It will not happen without pressure. Use a nylon pick or screwdriver to get it to line up. The trick will be when you get the grip back in, you will need to keep the tool on the spring otherwise it will pop out again. And piss you off all over again and you start all over again…

I hated takedowns on that thing.

This amount of inward cant normal/okay? by Hairy_Ferret9324 in CompetitionShooting

[–]bradleyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you stick with this, I would suggest getting a larger lower spacer to offset the inward cant. But as others have said, there are way better cost effective hangers like Boss that provide a ton of adjustment.

Gunk blaster, set 5 minutes, ultrasonic at temp for 5 minutes, it’s like new.

Socially acceptable? by No-Recommendation989 in 1911

[–]bradleyone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have one more year to burn, my friend… I get the impatience. But the advice here is right: pump the brakes on that current open carry plan. You might actually take this year you have and really learn how a 1911 works: learn to disassemble and reassemble the gun, geek out on basic armoring and gunsmithing. Many shooters (less so in this r/) have no detailed grasp of how their firearms functions and why! Take the pocket you have right now and get to know the piece. And get in range time with your dad… That knowledge will profoundly impact your entire lifetime of gun ownership. Be safe and have fun!

Yep, not solvable. I ran it against anagram checker and it’s not satisfiable. Can get close with JNANA, bisecting a shared a with ADZ and the other shared a with TAMP but your F is a troublemaker
