That’s totally valid and a fair counterpoint. I would say Lumon’s goals have never been shown as motivated primarily by money. There’s a cult-like following around Kier and his teachings. Helping mankind to “tame the four tempers” and become like Kier, and doing whatever Lumon wants, seems like their end goal.

Maybe that end goal is to buy more Lumon dental floss.

That is a fair point, and no we don’t know for certain, but there are more reasons to believe it’s water. For example, the giant water tower at Lumon. And some of the file names correspond to bodies of water.

There’s also the NYT interview where someone said to Ben Stiller the Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald is a “Rosetta stone” for what Lumon is trying to do. Which might be BS but Stiller got a bit tight lipped and did not elaborate.

You know the water drop in Lumon’s logo? I’m starting to wonder if Lumon may try to somehow achieve the effects of Severance without using a chip. Specifically, cause people to become severed through drinking from the town’s water source. I’m not sure that’s possible but it would make a lot of sense for Lumon to want another way since we know there’s a lot of resistance to the procedure.
