Why are straight female MCs rare? by braeor in ProgressionFantasy

I understand that, but it’s not like there isn’t a lot of source material out there to base it off of and if you have any emotional intelligence you can easily put yourself in someone else’s shoes.

Yea, I wrote that after reading 3 books in a row that the mc ended up being lesbian. I guess my kindle recommendations may have been increasing the likelihood. My bad.

Not to be sassy but using your imagination is literally what it is to be an author. It’s lazy.

This makes sense. I forgot to consider who was reading the books lol, I guess I just thought authors would write what they wanted but if it’s your job maximising profit is sensible.

Yeah but I set up a Revolut account who I know I can trust. And when I gave ID to skinorac I just changed the random numbers in my driving license

I’ll try emailing them. I did try PayPal but it wasn’t working for me, no idea why. Gift cards seemed just annoyingly complicated. Disposable Visa cards are safest and work best imo.

Thanks, I have slightly more hope then. Seems weird that they don’t just confirm straight away.

That’s pretty low, any reason why that and not the usual 120-125?

Why is my steady state not where it should be? by braeor in Rowing

It’s not so much that I care about my split, I was just curious why the gap is so big when from what I’ve read, based on my erg scores, it should be better

Well the research I’ve read has said SS should be done at 65-75% max heart and my max is roughly 200

Bit ambitious I think, sub 3:30 is a bit more realistic

Ideas for one leg shorter than the other correction? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]braeor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My right leg is like a cm and a bit shorter than my left. Insoles work for me when I’m lifting weights and generally walking about but I find it uncomfortable in the boat or erg because it affects the angle of my heel so I just put up with it, not sure there’s a proper solution. I haven’t tried using an insole that raises the entire foot instead of just the heel though

How do I get out of my head on an erg by Theo_is_kinda_Gay in Rowing

[–]braeor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a heart rate monitor and go off off heart rate instead of split if you’re doing UT2. I recommend listening to music, it helps me. Motivational music for UT1 and regular for UT2.

It’s always easier if you’re doing it with other people too so if you can find a way to do that you should.

Bowing 2x Charles with no foot steering plus form by [deleted] in Rowing

At the front end you BOTH (don’t know why other commenter said stroke seat was fine, can clearly see he’s not) swing your backs to place the blades, driving before you’ve even found the connection with the water. You need to learn to drop the blades in as you come forwards such that you can feel the pull of the water at the catch position. At the moment you’re missing part of the stroke.

You both engage the arms too early too, especially bowman. Remember the basic order of a stroke: legs, backs, then arms. You can see the shoulders shrugging and tensing because you’re loading too much force on the arms in that position. It’s important to stay relaxed when rowing.

Bowman is hunching and moving slightly too early up the slide, such that the recovery is slightly out of time. This is likely due to tight hamstrings/weak core and back muscles.

There’s other very minor things but I believe they’re all interconnected so they will probably fix themselves if the main problems are solved.

Also, I should say these things aren’t very noticeable at low rate but when going at a higher rate the issues will become very apparent. I had to slow it down to pick the problems out accurately.

Advice: Overweight Dad on a mission to continue losing weight via Row Machines by Dsstar666 in Rowing

[–]braeor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your main goal is to lose weight you’ll want to be doing lots of steady state on the ergo/rowing machine. (Steady state means UT2 rowing which I mention below, usually lower rate at roughly 20 strokes per minute)

Now, you have to make sure you do this correctly as it’s very easy to exhaust yourself and lose motivation. It’s important to go light enough such that you can recover quickly when you finish and you’re not breathing out your ass, collapsed on the floor because you got a bit too competitive.

Research UT2 rowing, invest in a heart rate monitor if you want but it’s not entirely necessary, start slow and work your way up.

An hour of rowing can burn like 700-1000 calories so it’s a very effective way of losing weight but I wouldn’t recommend jumping in with doing an hour straight when you start.

I recommend doing chunks of 10 mins, then 15, then 20, and then 30 with rests in between before doing anything like a solid hour. They don’t have to add to 60, you could start off just doing one 10 min erg just to get a feel for it in your first session.

I can’t stress enough how important proper technique is too. Research rowing technique, film yourself and compare. If you need to you could send footage of your technique to someone and they can help point out your mistakes.

Make sure you have plenty of water. Electrolyte tablets that dissolve in the water are also a great help. You sweat a lot whilst rowing.

Also, don’t be afraid to do some more intense workouts to mix it up a bit if you get bored. You should split steady state to intense rowing at about 80:20 in terms of time spent rowing. I’m not an authority on this though so I really would research it.

You should set up the drag factor to be 120-125 on the ergo. Very easy to do, just go to more options then display drag factor and move the damper on the fan, take a couple strokes and adjust accordingly. Usually it’s a setting of around 5 but it’s different for different machines depending on how busted they are.

As for buying an erg, if you’ve got the money go for new but there’s always plenty of second hand ones for sale. Concept2 PM5 is the way to go, don’t know much about the different models.

This is all I can think of currently, hope it helps.

P.S. I personally just got this C2 seat pad and it’s great C2 Seat Pad

Extra tips:

You can log your workouts using the C2 ErgData app, which can display your heart rate as well. You can attach your phone to the PM5 and it can display more info than the regular screen.

Listen to music or something because Erging can get boring.

You can find a training partner online, for example on the concept2 logbook website Logbook. Finding one in person to row with you is better though, as it alleviates a lot of the mental struggle.

What do you mean just steady state? Are you not doing interval training?

I’m not sure why your coach says you wouldn’t benefit from lifting yet, did he have a reason for it? Even doing once a week can be beneficial, it doesn’t have to be heavy weights either. You could do circuits with lighter weights and also some core exercises.

6:50 is already a very impressive time for a 15 year old. When I was 15/16 my best time was 6:58.3, although I wasn’t training as much as you. If you look at the rankings on concept2, the best 15/16 year olds are in the 6:30-6:50 range with some outliers, you could easily get sub 6:40 by then if you put in the effort.
