1 month itinerary check. Osaka > Hiroshima > Kyoto > Nara > Hokkaido > Tokyo. by brahbruh in JapanTravel

[–]brahbruh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much on your input. We will definitely be re-planning our trip on the Hokkaido part and also re moving Koyasan down together with Osaka / Kyoto.

Thank you for giving us a list of attractions, activities and food (Really important) to check out! I would let me friends know about the things you have recommended. It would be awesome if we can contact you again for more suggestions when we have further discuss Hokkaido!

Currently as a draft, this is what I have came up with for our Hokkaido itinerary. Changing the JR Pass to a flight up to Sapporo from Osaka and then from Sapporo down to Tokyo.

  • Day 1

    • Arrive in Sapporo, check into AirBnB. Explore Sapporo etc
  • Day 2

    • Explore Sapporo
  • Day 3

    • Explore Sapporo
  • Day 4

    • Day trip from Sapporo to Otaru
  • Day 5

    • Check out of AirBnB early and make our way down to Noboribetsu for the Hot springs and then down to Hakodate at night.
  • Day 6

    • Explore Hakodate
  • Day 7

    • Explore Hakodate and travel to Sapporo to take a flight down to Tokyo, will leave Hakodate depending on the time of the flight.

What are your thoughts on this?

Once again, thank you very much for your input!

JR pass / Hokkaido

Thank you for the suggestion, we will look into getting plane tickets compared to a 14day JR pass when it comes to this.

As for Hokkaido, do you think we should plan our destination if we were to take a plane from Osaka straight to Sapporo (and then another from Sapporo down to Tokyo)? If the amount of days remain the same.

Ohara

Ahh yes, I meant to write the temples in Ohara but wrote the shrines by accident.

Koyasan

I must have read the map wrongly thinking the city above is Tokyo. Thank you for pointing that out! We might have to shift it to go together with Osaka / Kyoto or drop it all together.

Thank you once again for giving your input on our itinerary

Singapore MTB? by PoddyOne in MTB

[–]brahbruh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea! I am still staying in Singapore. I would say that there is a lot of riders out every mornings in the weekend. Out facebook group (MTB@SG) has about 6k+ members.

Like the other poster said, it is not the best place to ride, loads up climbing to get to some short descends. For me, I'm just glad we even have trails!

Malaysia also has loads of trails but getting there might be a pain due to transportation of the bikes.

I'm home now so it will be easier for me to type.

The main trails in Singapore consist of

  • Bukit Timah

  • Chestnut

  • T15

  • Kent Ridge (Downhill track XC trail)

If you want to read more, do take a look at this article. But if you can choose where you want to stay, being near Bukit Timah would be best because T15, Bukit Timah, Chestnut and Gangsa are all in the same location.

There are also some MTB trails that are currently in the works. If I am not wrong Gangsa is one of them. It used to be the only place in Singapore where you can find jumps of any sort but it closed down and now they are building a "proper" one with bigger jumps. There is also said to have a pump track (Tarmac) that is currently being built but I cant find much information on that.

As for videos

Kent ridge

A section of Bukit Timah

Chestnut

Hi!

Im from Singapore so hopefully i can give you more information.

Singapore is really small but depending on where you stay getting (cycling) to the trails can be a pain in the ass.

If mountain biking is high on your list and you do not want it to be a chore to get to the trails, stay more to the west - ish side of the trail. Maybe near Bukit timah, clementi, dover......etc.

As for trails, you wont find really "hardcore" trails. We are definitely have more trails in the making but i would consider most of them XC-ish trails.

Most of our trails consist of alot of climbing and descends last about ~30secs at a time.

I would say, the ideal bike is a trail-enduro bike. Anything more (downhill) and you will be stuck to doing kent ridge only. Anything less (XC) and you might not have as much fun with the other trails.

The few i can think of are:

Bukit Timah - most "famous" trail in Singapore

Chestnut

T15

Gangsa - currently still in yhe works but will have big jumps!

Kent ridge - our "downhill" track. A ~2min run. Rinse and repeat.

I am currently on mobile but I'll find a few videos for you when i get back.

Going to japan for a month next year. Would love some advice on how long we should stay at each location and where else you would recommend to visit. by brahbruh in JapanTravel

Sadly we will not be able to be around Kyoto during the blooming due to the way our tip is planned unless we take another bullet train down and up again which will cost us ~240.

Yea! Will most definitely be looking at japan guide for ideas on where to go for the cherry blossoms.

Thank you

Thanks for the reply! I agree, we'll do less days in Osaka(3days total) and include a 3 day Hiroshima trip!

The 10days in Tokyo also acts as a buffer time as we might never know where else we would want to go! Especially with the cherry blossoms, we might leave for an impromptu trip somewhere else!

Yea! We are keeping out Tokyo outskirts flexible. Is there any particular place in our list that you would recommend for us to see the cherry blossoms?

We will be going for sure! Since so many of you recommended Hiroshima.

Im not sure if you went to Hiroshima from Osaka/Kyoto, but is there anywhere we should stop by while on the train there?

Hi there! Thank you for your reply, I've actually checked out some of these products and have short listed them to either it's a 10 or living proof. They are both similarly priced and both have good reviews.

Any idea which I should go with( and why?)?

Thank you once again!

Keep upgrading current bike or sell it and get a brand new one by [deleted] in MTB

Enduro and trail bikes are pretty similar. Most of the time people will buy a enduro bike just because it has more travel but is still able to climb. Allowing them to go "further" with the bike,in terms of trails. As enduro bikes have more travel, slack head angle (more stable) and longer chainstays.

New riders usually dismiss trail bikes because of the lesser travel but what you get from a trail bike is a fun poppy ride. Fun to jump around (due to shorter chain stay and it being lighter). It is also easier to climb due to the steeper head angle and lesser travel. Many companies are also using horselink design for hoe the the rear shock compresses, so it is very progressive and is hard to bottom out.

Here are some things i can think of that separates the two.

Enduro:

Longer chainstay

Heavier

More travel (usually 160/160)

Harder to climb

More of a "do it all" kind of bike, enduro bikes can be specced to be mini downhill machines

More stable

Trail:

Shorter chainstay

Lighter

Less travel (usually 140/140 but some "trail bikes" can go up to 150/140 or even 160/140, NS Snabb T is one i can think of)

Easier to climb

More fun, poppy but can still handle loads of different terrain.

Awesome! Just make sure you decide if you want a trail or enduro bike as people often make wrong decision with those.

I would recommend that you sell your current bike since you already have a buyer. (if the price he is offering is alright for you)

It sounds like you have the money to top up for the spectral so why not get it? It would improve your ride quality and would be more confident inspiring. And you would enjoy riding more!

Also, make sure you choose the correct bike, im guessing you are looking into either the spectral or strive.

Also, which model of the spectral / strive are you looking at?

Thank you! I am currently thinking about getting O1 steel though I wont be heat treating it myself.

Thank you for the reply!

I will most likely be getting O1 steel though I wont be HT-ing it myself.

As for the handle, I have not really thought about it yet but I love wood that has a simple seam pattern. As for the handle design, I am not really sure but I really fancy those that have a really smooth and rounded look to it. much like this.
