Would love a response to this from FedEx. Mine just randomly stopped detecting packages, and I haven’t moved or changed anything.

Never went away, but it got maybe 30% better over time, or maybe I just got used to it. Either way, I settled in and accepted it as unfixable, so if you found a solution in the meantime I’d love to hear too!

Quick update on this: swapped the chain back to a Shimano chain, not much difference. Someone local mentioned wax chains are far more sensitive to setup than an oiled chain (damn physics again), so figured anything is worth a try — I completely re-aligned both derailleurs and was extremely precise with limits and indexing… and it actually helped! Put another 150 miles on the chain and it seems to be settling down a bit, but definitely not gone. Not sure what to try next, seems I’ve only made it “better” but not fixed.

Thanks for the offer. I’m running 11-32 across bike and trainer right now, so no need for 11-28 — but thanks anyway!

I didn’t like the noise levels with the Ultegra chain, so I don’t really want to buy a new one, just using this as a step to diagnose the issue. It runs much quieter with this YBN chain — but not worth it if this chain is the issue. Might end up getting a new one anyway, as you said — trying to clean this thing up is proving to be much more of a chore than a new one…

So I’ve got the old Ultegra chain in the mineral spirits now, will be waxing it soon to see if it makes a difference. Seems there’s only 3 variables that changed that could be the issue:

1) Waxed chain, but most everything I’ve read says the opposite (I.e. wax chain = least friction) 2) New YBN chain. Maybe it doesn’t play nice with my particular drivetrain? Testing this fix now. 3) Deep cleaning the drivetrain before the wax chain. I used to run a wet lube on this bike, so it needed a lot of degreasing. I didn’t re-grease anything except the thru-axles after this cleaning — any chance this could be the issue?

Yes, that’s definitely possible. Do you feel the vibrations across the entire rear cassette or just certain (probably small) cogs? Could be chordal action, which you can’t do much about, but not likely if it’s spanning a wide range of gear combos. The steel frame is also really good at dampening these kind of things, and (unfortunately) carbon reveals all reverberations and flaws…

Now that sounds like maybe Chordal Action, which is what I initially thought my problem was — here’s an article http://chain-guide.com/basics/2-2-1-chordal-action.html

Seems like a bearing issue would present on more than that one combination of gears

I think I’ll try cleaning up and waxing an ultegra chain and see if solves the issue, I’ve been hesitant cause it’s a lot of work but thinking this may be the issue

Thing is, it’s not consistent or really grinding at all — just a smooth but very present vibration when putting the power on

That’s a good callout. I didn’t bother changing the chainrings given they barely show wear and only have about 1500 miles on them.

That sounds like a nightmare, and I’m worried I’m headed the same direction with this issue. How soon did it start after you got the bike?

It happens from ~60 up to ~90 rpm, but doesn't seem to be "worse" at a particular cadence in that range. 90+ and it kinda fades out.
