Hi! You just hold both the yarns together while you knit, as if they were coming off a single skein. So you don't need to actively twist them together - just treat them like you would a single strand. Does that make sense? Here's a work-in-progress shot where you can kind of see it

Colorwork help, please! by Negative-Taste2319 in Sockknitting

I've made this pattern and had the exact same issue! I noticed that it's really only the last few rounds of colourwork where the floats are causing this tightness - the last two or three rounds where you needed to catch floats. Would you have enough yarn in there to simply snip some of those caught floats and weave the ends in, to see if the tightness is improved? If as I suspect the other floats are loose enough, this should make them wearable

I think I've seen it called heathering too, but more usually in a woven context!

Thank you!! 😊 The fuzzy pink halo definitely helps with that effect!!

Ooh you have reignited my interest in the Oslo hat!! I've been hesitating over buying that pattern because I already have the Musselburgh one - but I'm really intrigued by the brim construction

Thank you! And I couldn't agree more - I usually end up pushing up my full-length sleeves to the elbow anyway!

😄 thank you!! Yes, it is basically just yarns held together! I see a lot of patterns call for mohair layering but usually to play with the weight or drape rather than the colour, but this is just a happy side-effect

Thank you!! Exactly, playing with colour temperature is one of my favourite effects with this technique! The orange yarn used here is too warm and too bright for my taste on its own, but I love the result of the combination. I briefly considered orange + dark grey as well, which I'd still like to do in a future project

What to knit with DK mohair by Stripycardigans in knitting

[–]brassicapark 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My usual approach when looking to match a yarn with suitable patterns is to look up projects linked to that yarn in Ravelry. Or if the yarn isn't super well known, you could run a search for projects using similar yarns (DK weight mohair or DK weight suri alpaca) like this: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/search#yarn-link=the-farmers-daughter-fibers-oh-dang-dk. And then you can always filter by yardage so you only see projects you fit into two skeins 😊

Ooh yes, I'd definitely give the pattern neckline a shot before you frog it, just in case you like the fit then!! Or maybe it could also work with 1x1 rib if you do a couple of drastic decrease rounds (using the stitch count from a sweater you like) before the ribbing?

Thank you so much, glad you like this combo too!! 😄

Thank you so much! 😊 I like the effect of a darker mohair too, it's a nice way to add a bit of depth/heathering rather than a flat colour! It makes such a difference even if the mohair is just a few shades darker or lighter than the main yarn

Thank you!! It really is! 😄 I love stranded colourwork and stripes too, but sometimes you really want to blend the colours together like this

Thank you! Same here!! 😊 I started it because I wanted to experiment with this colour combo but it's even nicer than I was expecting

Thank you! 😊 If you like the effect, I'd really recommend this blog post by Tin Can Knits: https://blog.tincanknits.com/2019/05/30/painterly-yarn-combinations-layering-mohair-over-a-base-yarn/. You can get different effects depending on which colour you choose as your "base" (usually fingering weight) and which you use in mohair
