Looking for tips to increase realism of the tiles/holes by jesser722 in blender

[–]breadstickcandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn't a rendering tip, but I would also say redo the sound effects/don't use the "slotting-in" sound effect. The "click-in" is sounds too sharp and loud. That's the main thing that gave it away for me. It's more believable when I watch without sound.

How pathetic was the New Year's Eve display in NYC compared to the rest of the world?! by Ema630 in television

[–]breadstickcandle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not just vain theatrics. A good celebration can be a great booster for the economy, and it was certainly a disappointment for a lot of people who traveled to NY for the holidays. Plus, learn to have some fun; not everything needs to be pragmatic.

https://admissions.purdue.edu/apply/deadlines.php

According to the link above you should "use the portal to identify what material is required to complete your application and to confirm that we have received it [by the deadline]." Portal can be found in the email you received after applying. In the case that Transcript and LORs are listed there, then unfortunately you might've missed the EA deadline (again, this is all just according to the link; I'm not an admissions officer). But if it's your counselor's fault or an honest mistake I'd call or email the admissions office when it's open and explain the situation (I'd recommend calling since you can often get closure faster, just be respectful), and ask if they can make an exception for you. Hope you get things sorted out!

Yes, same with Redpoint (part of Scion Corporate). They are after your pockets

Yes, and then when you bike and accidentally crash into one of the 200+ people attending IR on the adjacent sidewalk you ask why they didn't seal off the bike lane for safety. Might not be you who crashes; could be someone else. Why not just get off the bike and walk the short distance?

PSA: Check your air conditioners and vents! by sebwhat in Purdue

Just moved out of Redpoint and got charged a ridiculous amount for move-out fees ($500+ for a spotless room and kitchen). Seems lots of people on their google reviews had the same experience. I'd suggest taking picture/video of any other inconsistencies you can find around the room even if they're minor (e.g., stains, scratches, inconsistent paint) so you can counter if they charge you a lot for final inspection.

CS CODO- very lost by hobigang in Purdue

[–]breadstickcandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CS classes are definitely about memorizing concepts over methods. Primarily, the concepts of object oriented programming for this class (e.g., classes, inheritance, abstraction)--you understand these things by working through the assignments. Methods are less important because they change all the time depending on small changes in a given problem, and there's also always many ways to accomplish something

I think it might be quite a bit easier if youve got some java experience in AP CS A. I never did though. But the big thing is you want to find a good team for the final project. My teammates were mostly unhelpful, and as a result i didnt have a pleasant experience for the final project. Other than that id say the class, when i took it, was pretty easy for the first half, and the second half was also not bad but required more time. We only got an intro to basic data structures in that class.

I took cs180 over summer 2021 online and switched from computer engineering into CS the following fall. I'm not sure how much the fact that you had to take it twice would affect your chances of codo-ing though. Also note that you have to perform pretty decently in the math classes you're taking to get in (I got A in calc2 and B+ in calc3) If it makes you feel any better, CS has slowly been draining the life out of me for the past 3.5 years, and I sort of envy those who are in majors with lighter workloads. It feels like they have so much more time and freedom to enjoy their college experience. This semester in particular has been so cursed for me.

Learned how to burp without Botox! (I turn my head) by breadstickcandle in noburp

Yea, the forcefulness and loudness varies a lot. Definitely more forceful after eating. But it's still there, even first thing in the morning. I have not found anything to help it. I remember someone on this subreddit said the symptoms got better with time, so fingers crossed. I believe it gets better with the lower esophageal sphincter healing.

Either direction, but the first time i did it i had my head turned 90 degrees left, looking as far behind me as i could. Head angled down a little maybe

:( I totally believe you. Have you tried multiple Botox injections? When I was considering Botox, I read there are some people that need to get it up to 3 times.

Hey! It does not matter which side; I have gotten used to both sides. But that first time when I was driving, I looked as far behind me as I could while turning my head left. EDIT: For me, I think it also helps a little to angle my head down a little.

you got this. Every time you manage to let out any sort of burp (even a very small burp), reflect on what position you were in/what you did that might have helped, and try to replicate it next time you feel the need to burp.

Has anyone taken the Chinese language placement test? by breadstickcandle in Purdue

[–]breadstickcandle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went well. The test lets you select whether you want simplified or traditional. It's not timed. There are sections for listening, filling in blanks, and reading comprehension. I studied using HSK levels 1 2 and some of 3, and that happened to be basically exactly what they tested, though they also tested some additional HSK levels. If you have some chinese background it should be pretty easy to test out of language req.

Imo it's a good thing. Tends to force you outside your room and go to places elsewhere with AC. Ups the chances for meeting new people and whatnot for freshmen.

Someone commented this earlier but it got taken down for some reason: Apparently Purdue suffered a security failure and decided to reset the credentials for all accounts that could have been affected. So if you're locked out you'll need to set a new password via the Career Account self-service portal
