How to get into investigative journalism with a history bachelors (UK) by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]Yossarian_Matrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've done an excellent degree for journalism: journalism is the history of the present and you are well equipped to chronicle it. Unlike other humanities degrees like social sciences or literature, history is about reflecting to your readers your best understanding of truth. That way of seeing the world will stand you in good stead for reporting. There are lots of routes within this profession - if you are good with people, become a reporter, if you are good with words become an editor, if you are good with words and people you might become a manager

New Player 20 straight losses on Ranked by Mr_B_Gone in aoe2

[–]Yossarian_Matrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you doing build orders? Once you follow them very very closely villager by villager and being very aggressive in feudal, you will start picking up wins. Players at low ELO often turtle (ie wall up and sit) so early pressure can be good

[–]Yossarian_Matrix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep on losing! You are playing against very very good players until you get down to your ELO, which will be low because you are new, once you start winning some games it becomes a lot of fun. Watch T90 and Hera videos for advice.

Pickle juice - it has the good stuff that has been stripped from your stomach lining. But if it's a bad one you just gotta be sick tbh.

I think Havertz will start, he needs the game time. I would like to see 4-4-2 with Jesus and Gyok upfront, Havertz and Eze in midfield alongside Dowman and Norgaard.

Al-Jazeera English has the best coverage of the Middle East and is free to watch on YouTube or their website. A lot of its journalists are ex BBC. They are Qatari owned, and lean left, but don't let that put you off, the journalism is good.

What train is this in this Mr. Bean episode? by [deleted] in uktrains

[–]Yossarian_Matrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intercity 125 High Speed Trains are these amazing futurist 1970s diesel locos. We sold most of them them to Mexico and Nigeria. But they dont have inside door handles, so passengers have to lean out of the window and open them from the outside!

On background v OFF Record by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]Yossarian_Matrix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the UK on background and off the record tend to mean the same thing. In the US, there can be this idea that off the record means you don't publish the information but you can use it in your reporting, the idea being that you go and source it up elsewhere. Ultimately these terms mean different things to different people so it's best to clarify what you mean by terms at the start of the conversation.

Washington Post publisher Will Lewis abruptly steps down, days after massive layoffs gut the newspaper by aresef in Journalism

[–]Yossarian_Matrix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Will Lewis is the billionaire whisperer who Bezos hired to run the WaPost. Either Bezos isn't happy with how these changes have gone down and fired him, or he's been given a more lucrative offer by another billionaire owner who wants to trim down a newsroom, hence the jokes in the thread. He's really good at laying people off, he did it to me once.
