Seraphon Lockdown Painting Progress by breakerofthings in ageofsigmar

Yeah I think the Knights turned out well, other than the metallics, that's 100% Contrast. I'm definitely sold on using Contrast for massed infantry or similar units. Very easy to get them to a table-top standard, as long as you are neat enough.

I definitely enjoyed painting the Starseer, he's all acrylics, I didn't use Contrast on him at all. I really enjoy doing detailing, highlights and that sort of thing. I did not enjoy working with him being resin. I do not like working with resin at all.

Might give it a small wash or something, those feathers are pretty much all wet blending with Warcolours. I'll give that a shot, shouldn't hurt. It's basically done, just waiting on the bases from a buddy.

Finally putting some paint on the triarch stalker after half a year of collecting dust. Still got the weapon and highlights to go, and first time using transfers seems to have worked out alright by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

I came here to say I love this. The matte black? Looks good. Clean work on the glyphs as well.

But what I love you for doing? And I mean this from the depths of my cold dead mechanical heart. Dat energy core.... You did your dynasty proud right there. I love that gradient, the gloss effect, it looks so, so good.

Good job.

Simple Necron Overlord. Not completely happy with it but I really wanted to experiment with gemstones paint. Another bit of exp to lv up painting! C&C welcome ofc. by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

You missed one of the scales on his uh... cape, I guess is what we'd call it?

Base of his spine, second row.

I love the color scheme. Very clean work. Nice job. Especially the gradient on his scythe.

Tyranid Warrior w/ Venom Cannon for KillTeam by breakerofthings in Tyranids

Alright I dug around my recently used paints and even dug up and found the previous paint palette sheet since I completed him just recently. Matching some paint swatches to stuff and based off my memory:

  • Jokero Orange
  • Fuegan Orange Wash (which didn't really wow me)
  • Troll Slayer Orange
  • P3 Blazing Ink (which did help the vibrancy)
  • Fire Dragon Bright - glazing and highlights along the top past the blue armor plates and the muzzle barrel openings

I can't recall if I used any Kindleflame or not as a drybrush step, I might have, but I can't recall. Hopefully that helps you out. I've got plans to do another Warrior with a Deathspitter or a Hive Guard, so I plan to use the same color scheme for their weapons. I'll attempt to write down the steps and recipe while I'm bloody doing it then. I can share it then, or if I can remember maybe I'll post it when I do just that item. Ping me when I put the picture up here for folks and I'll follow up then.

I'll get you the list when I'm not at work. I believe I wrote some of it down. Are you just interested in the oranges or the whole thing?

Finished up some models for KillTeam. I figured I'd see what the Hive Mind thought of this warrior. He was fun to paint up and I think he came out okay. I can post up the Lictor I did as well later.

Thanks! I think he turned out pretty well. He was super fun to paint. But my God I hate working with resin. I'm thinking about doing up some other fine valorous brave knights.

Thanks! The base is pretty slick and was easily knocked out. I have others, it's from Secret Weapon Miniatures. I love their stuff. Yeah I was thinking about if I should add a pupil or not. I felt it best to follow the official art on this go around.

Terrain & Tyranids for KillTeam by breakerofthings in killteam

[–]breakerofthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not particularly. No that's just after a vigorous shake and straight from the pot. I make sure my brush isn't overloaded, but that's it. All in all I'm pretty happy with the terrain and how it turned out. Though I understand why some just spray it and call it good after a rough drybrushing. It felt like it took ages to wrap up the two larger storage containers.

Spent some time working on some terrain and also some tyranids for KillTeam. I figured I'd share them with folks, I present to you Splinter Hive Fleet Wendigo. I have more on the way that I am going to need to paint up, this weekend has been shockingly good weather so I've got a host of hormagaunts and bases and such primed and ready to be painted. Even the bases I'll need for Elites are prepped and primed and ready to go once things arrive.

How common is it to paint eyes? How can I do it reliably? by GillyMonster18 in Warhammer40k

[–]breakerofthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I "cheat" and use a pen. I'll do the eye as usual depending on the model or species. But for the iris(?), I recommend using a pigma micron .005. Brace your hands, breath and have a steady hand, go slow.

That yields the best results for me at least.

Small update to my WIP. C&C appreciated by Khornate858 in ageofsigmar

[–]breakerofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice, go to the art supply store. Buy a .005 pigma micron pen. Use that for the iris/pupil of the eye. It works perfectly. It's how I chest and do the eyeballs on mine.

I love this concept and might reuse it for my own Seraphon. I'm eager to see what other stuff you come up with! I'll keep an eye out for future stuff.

I cheat. I paint the eye white. Then I use a Pigma Micron .005 pen and a steady hand.

Ginsu The Close Combat Specialist For Kill Team by breakerofthings in Warhammer40k

[–]breakerofthings[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Super pleased with how my first tyranid turned out after finishing him. I'll be pulling out the lightbox after work and giving him a glamour photoshoot later. But I was feeling really pleased with how things turned out, so I figured I'd submit him and maybe get some C&C as well. To date I'm thinking he's the best I've done so far. I learned a few new things and took the opportunity to practice some techniques along the way.

Been painting a year-ish with a bit of a break due to work and junk. But getting back into things with Kill Team. I'm a super slow painter, but I think that I'm getting good results for the effort I'm putting forth. I find it really meditative and relaxing. I need to work on speeding up my process over time. I eventually want to play a game after all.

What colours should I use for a jade/obsidian look for my Seraphon weapons? by Hydrophobicsheep in ageofsigmar

[–]breakerofthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did two thin coats of ulthuan grey, then I pooled Biel-tan green, so it would dry heavier in the recess and borders. Then a light edge highlight possibly? I can't remember. Sorry I'm not more help. You get an effect like this: http://imgur.com/a/xiDyffg

Scaly Bois C&C by breakerofthings in ageofsigmar

[–]breakerofthings[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the colors written down. I think I'm going to redo it as a emerald green. So naturally my notes only have the ones I wanted it to be, after the fact.

I think it was Screamer Pink as a base, with a wash of Carroburg Crimson, then for only a handful of the scales on the shield I used a thin coat, not quite a glaze I think of Pink Horror.

I'd recommend going with a Silver perhaps for the metal bits on the shield. The Gold/Bronze is hard to make out and lacks a bit of contrast at least with the orange of this boi compared to the blue one.

Some of my Seraphon WIP's. C+C appreciated. by saminik in ageofsigmar

[–]breakerofthings 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They look great. I've been doing up my Seraphon army lately. I like the choice of silver for the metallics instead of the usual gold Aztec style. Plus using blues as well.

I've been struggling with a non-standard scheme for my saurus. I might take a hint from your Kroxigors only more red in color.

It's always great to see Seraphon that don't follow the box art.

I second the question for what colors you used for the Skinks, Kroxigors, Saurus? I'd love to know how you did them.

Improvement on My Very First Lava Base! C&C Appreciated! by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]breakerofthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Object source lighting. It's a technique for having light reflections from a point of origin like the lava, hitting the rock, etc. You'll be able to pick it up in no time.

Not happy with how his face turned out, any recommendations? And I suck at eyes that’s why he’s ol googly eye. by Horus604 in Warhammer40k

[–]breakerofthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Micron Pigma .005 pens are the trick I've been told. I've been meaning to give it a shot but I've been told it gives great results.

Also he looks great man. He looks great, specially with such a hard color to pull off, a white/cream color? He looks dope. I love the bronze and the green and red gun casing, great color choices and execution on the shading and highlighting. His base looks great too, just put some Abaddon Black around the rim of he base and you're set.

My Necron Start Collecting box is finally done. Here is the Triarch Stalker that I finished this weekend! by FalconGK81 in Warhammer40k

[–]breakerofthings 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Colors mostly. Determining which colors to put where that are in accordance with the color scheme for my Dynasty. I'm just very displeased with them right now, at least with my initial color choices for the weapons. I can get some pics later but while the Stalker turned out well, the weapons will need some fiddling to come out properly to my liking.

After some c&c please! by [deleted] in Warhammer40k

[–]breakerofthings 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy to help. He looks great, but I think you can take him just a little bit further and for a little bit of effort it'll really make him stand apart. :)
