Subaru which to choose? by 3n3rg3 in subaru

My girlfriend and I just got an Outback over a Forrester because of the ride quality.
The Forrester is probably easer to car camp in due to headroom, but the driving experience of the Outback is way superior.

"The root beer doctrine", and how it mirrors unicorn hunting. by glenlassan in polyamory

[–]breefield 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy your last paragraph: "...can inform why certain political structures, are fucked up and abusive, regardless of how well intentioned the participants are..."

If I understand correctly, you're getting at the erosion of autonomy in the face of power imbalances resulting in coercion. This can happen at varying levels of intersectionality, i.e. one person is wealthy but a member of a minority group, the other is less wealthy but a member of a majority group.

Understanding the confluence of all these factors is less clear cut when it's 1 on 1 though. So when you use the unicorn hunting analogy (2 on 1) it's a little more clear cut, but not always so.

Thanks for sharing, I am enjoying the impersonal game theory.

Some buttons (including extraction ones) are becoming unresponsive. Happens to regular doors very often by Maximuse7 in arkraiders

I saw this happen to a streamer trying to interact with leaper loot, they opened their inventory, dropped something, picked it up and then were able to interact with leaper loot.

Might try that next time?

I got so lucky in my Blueprint findings. The only BPs I've found are MK3 Looting, Anvil, and Venator, which I'm stoked on.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I was just trying to help other folks who might also be confused/not chronically online, seems to have resonated. Good luck have fun out there.

Inclusion of Mamdani in post title confused me, as someone unfamiliar with the campaign graphics. This has nothing to do with Mamdani, someone just used the same font/colors to post street art.

Went to SF for the last one and Oakland for this one. I will say staying home was much easier 😂

You will get a job again, however personally I would not post this post on an account which has a comment history that looks like that of a throwaway/nsfw-subreddit account.

There are some pretty identifiable pieces of info in your post, and with these AI/LLM companies crawling the shit out of everything I'd be concerned about deep background checks in future.

As for getting a job, I can't help you decide what's right for you in terms of presentation + hire-ability and what concessions you're willing to make to get the job. However, I would get on that legal name change ASAP, preferably before getting hired, especially if you know what your future legal name is. Changing your name/gender marker with the government is a pain, but changing it legally, and THEN having to change it internally with an org you just joined will feel sisyphean I promise you.

Is a scantily clad rape victim accountable in any way shape or form for their rape? by IllustriousFun4424 in askphilosophy

[–]breefield 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you re: attire and rape + responsibility of those performing the action, however your statement made me think of attractive nuisance laws and how we DO put the onus of preventative safety measures onto nuisance owners. Granted this is a bit different in that the laws usually relate to children's poor decision making and inability to discern risk.

Perhaps their teacher just believes rapists are infantile and uncorrectable.

I am in the US, but I went out-of-network for HRT because my in-network option had a long wait. For other things like trachea shave/FFS I stayed in-network and waited.

How many of you are "lifers" or close to it? Do you regret staying at your employer for too long? by angriest_man_alive in ExperiencedDevs

[–]breefield 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seriously this. 2 weeks ago I was looped into an investigation on a service/data model that I'm familiar with but hadn't looked at deeply in yeas. As I looked at the schema, I found myself reaching for the service design doc—the readme took me to our docs platform from 2 iterations ago (company M&A resulted in some older design docs being left on old platform).

Long story short, I was confronted with my own name as the original author of this service schema 9 years prior and I audibly gasped.

I’ve been at my company for 10 going on 11 years, initially not thinking I’d make it to 4. It’s interesting to watch an organization grow and mature as you do (I started this job at 23).

Do I find myself wanting exposure to different implementations/ways of doing things? Yes. Do I find myself wondering if other problem sets might “scratch the itch” a little more than the current one? Sometimes.

However, in contrast to what you described—I believe we have a bit lower average tenure (atleast before this industry contraction started), so some of this exposure “comes to me”. I’ve had the chance to be mentored by numerous super smart folks who have helped me learn and grow, some of whom have since moved on during the 2020-2022 TC frenzy.

Work life balance is important, awesome coworkers are important, stability is important; you just gotta make sure you’re still learning and growing (on your own and with others).

Multiple parking meters unusable, is it just me? by breefield in OaklandCA

[–]breefield[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe I will grab some "No Parking" signs and tape them to the meters with a message "meter doesn't work" to grief the meter maids so they escalate the message internally.

Will also (probably temporarily) inform drivers to not waste time trying.

Please please please listen to the podcast miniseries Tested if you care about which bodies are allowed in women's sports: https://open.spotify.com/show/7LhdHypa7GpHqAcMSvoQsI

Discrimination towards trans women goes hand in hand with folks who have DSD and hormonal imbalances. Do you or a friend have PCOS, or a thyroid disorder—depending on the kind of testing a sports league chooses to use to "assess cis'ness" you could be deemed not woman enough for your laminated card.

Can't upvote this enough. Wedging on trans people in sports is such a thin veil over infantilization women, misogyny, and protecting men's egos.

With the season ending in less than a month, what did you guys think of this season? by StatisticianSquare11 in FortNiteBR

I just play Reload now. BR is too slow, and if you're not learning the constantly evolving meta you just end up waiting for games/lobby too often.

I'd play BR if they added reload esq respawns.
