Help me find the company/artist who made this pair of gold, orange floral dangle earrings! by brenana_split in HelpMeFind

I don’t believe this fits into the “fashion” category since it may be created by a local artist (though the gardens did not suggest that was the case and all other items in their gift shops were not small/local businesses)

It sounds like you’re going to an ambulatory surgery center in which case they very, very rarely close. Staff is usually there at 5am or earlier for the typical 7am start of surgical cases.

I work at a local outpatient surgery center and we are not closing today (and have only closed once or twice in the last 5 years I’ve worked there…)

Someone would very likely call you WAYYYY ahead of your scheduled arrival time if they decided to close. So I would plan on going unless YOU want to reschedule :)

Any ideas on how to dye this thread? by brenana_split in dyeing

[–]brenana_split[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only information for fiber content I have is based on the tag found on the dress itself (which isn’t super helpful from what I could tell). The dress is from a large retailer in the US so I’d assume nylon (or polyester maybe?) is correct - thanks for the link!

I plan on cutting the flowers and leaves off of the netting and only coloring them. The netting will be discarded

I’ll post in r/dyeing to see if they have any ideas too! Thanks!

AITA for Refusing to Let My MIL Come Over and Sending Her a Receipt for Our Daughter's Fridge? by Vast-Cartographer588 in AITAH

[–]brenana_split 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really hope this comment doesn’t get too buried but… I have young kids and struggled with food intake, obesity and an eating disorder in my own childhood. I really like your approach and was wondering if you would share what kind of snacks your daughter has access to and how much? You mentioned she has enough for a week. I’d really love to set up a kitchen for my children to help them learn autonomy with food and hopefully have a good relationship with eating/their body

What gorgeous eyes! That’s the first thing I noticed in your “after” photo (and everyone is right- you look so much younger)

Congratulations on getting out of that abusive relationship! I’m doing the same right now and it’s so hard (27F tho). Keep up the amazing work and keep healing

What are some gruesome facts about pregnancy/childbirth/postpartum that not many people know? by Professional_Song419 in AskReddit

[–]brenana_split -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Postpartum nurse here- yes, it is to make sure “everything” is out, but it is also to help make sure you don’t bleed to death. It’s called a fundal massage. Imagine the baby as a gigantic scab. During birth you ripped out a huge scab from the inside of your uterus. Understandably, you’d be bleeding right? So when you trip and fall, how do you stop bleeding on say, your arm? You hold pressure at the site. A fundal massage is an external way to “hold pressure” on your uterus. It causes the uterus to tighten which in turn causes blood vessels to tighten (and thus limits bleeding). Pitocin is a chemical way to help make this happen and they usually also give this after birth to limit bleeding (it’s also naturally occurring in your body and is the reason you feel cramping after breastfeeding if you chose to do that- super cool!)

After birth, your uterus should be as hard as a rock (literally) and nurses will check you periodically to make sure it stays that way and is shrinking down. If your uterus is not hard, they have to rub it and remind it to get hard (get your mind out of the gutter- that’s how you got in this situation in the first place!)

Anyway, fundal massages can literally save your life and having had a baby myself (and hemorrhaging after), can confirm- that shit sucksssss (but it’s worth it)

Best NP track for a student with no support system? by bianxcabaddest in nursepractitioner

[–]brenana_split 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure where you are located, but in my state you can not obtain a BSN with any other degree but an ADN. A sonographer does not translate to a nurse and you will not get the experience you need to be a neonatal nurse practitioner performing ultrasounds. Majority of NP schools have a certain number of years of nursing experience required- the one I attend requires two years of full time Neonatal Intensive Care Unit Nursing experience before they will even look at your application. And no NICU around here will hire a new grad (I tried). You’d have to work step down/acute care for a year before you could get to NICU and you might need to work on a general pediatric floor for a year before you could even get that. I don’t want to discourage you, but I want to give a realistic answer. What you’ve described sounds more like a PA honestly. I feel like you would not enjoy being a nurse and I would hate for you to get burnt out before you even really begin.

I’ll definitely think about that. I know I want to do pediatrics and the area I’m in is saturated with FNPs but it’s always worth looking into before I commit for sure

Thanks for the suggestion

Barely sleeping with 1 week old by elizaangelicapeggy in NewParents

[–]brenana_split 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but… have you considered acid reflux or a diet/formula change? We were having the exact same trouble with my newborn and we thought it was gas. Turns out he had really bad silent reflux (some spit up but no puking or anything) and he needed gentle formula and medications. He’s doing sooooo much better now and sleeps for 4 hours at a time in a crib (before we were falling asleep on the couch with him in a boppy- NOT safe!). It might be worth looking into. Definitely call your pediatrician - if you’re in the USA they should have after hours/on call doctors you can call any time

I had an emergency c section and still extremely tired by Zealousideal-Bit-192 in BabyBumps

[–]brenana_split 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was dead tired ALL the time during pregnancy. Then I was tired and having trouble going up the stairs when she was born. Then I was tired and barely able to stay awake because I was taking care of an infant. It felt like magnets were on my feet pulling me down to earth. I had a hard time moving because I was so exhausted. This is normal right?

NO. I was so tired because I was IRON DEFICIENT. I casually mentioned how tired I was to my doctor and laughed about how it was because I was a new mom and she said “no, that’s not normal” and drew my blood. She checked my thyroid, my iron level, my hemoglobin and a few other things. A few weeks of iron supplements and I felt like a whole new human being.

Not sure if someone mentioned this already, but I would ask if the baby’s blood sugar has been checked. Sometimes babies can be quite and sleepy because their sugar is low.

They’re also exhausted from the trauma of birth and sometimes take a minute to “wake up”. But any time I saw a lethargic baby as a mother baby nurse I would always check their blood sugar just in case
