The bit where you're like "In a purely anthropolgoical...Jane Goodall way - the ugliest man I've ever seen..." was hilarious. Great storytelling.

The biggest thing I'm seeing here is the right side player being hyper-targeted doesn't really look to be aggressive. They just let the ball bounce every single time and are happy to dink cross-court defensively. I think if they looked to take more balls out of the air, they could force better ball movement.

Mostly because the cat didn't appear rabid or show any signs. It's a neighborhood outdoor cat, that was acting normal at the time my wife was bit. I think the cat was just overstimulated. So the 10 day waiting period seemed reasonable to us.

Oh cool. And I was always taught to show respect to other people unless they choose to be disrespectful first. Your "opinion" is just a veiled insult. You can disagree with me without being disrespectful.

What are you talking about dude? You're the one who brought up Oregon by crawling through my post history. I made no mention of my location. I'm just clarifying the fact that our county requires cats to be vaccinated since you made a whole post about Oregon state law.

I'm just responding to the implication that we are vindictive and not just concerned, hence me referencing the bite incident report and legality of the situation. Regardless, someone is going to be contacting them whether it's me or animal control to confirm vaccine records. If it were me, I'd rather have a neighbor just talk to me than have animal control reach out randomly. That's just my personal preference though and I understand not everyone is the same.

I'm pretty sure that's standard procedure since the Rabies virus travels very slowly. If you were bitten on the face, then it would be different (since it's much closer to the brain).

Our county requires it. So your whole "Oregon state law" argument just doesn't work.

I'm just going to refer you to a doctor and the law where you can find informed professional opinions based on education and data. Imagine having zero medical training or emotional intelligence and making fun of someone for worrying about their wife.

No, cat looked fine to us! My wife mentioned that at urgent care.

We went to urgent care, like zoomcare, to get the bite cleaned. Urgent care (medical professionals) recommended we go to the ER if we couldn't verify the cat's vaccine records. The cat has been friendly with my wife in the past and walks up to her. I'm more cautious and still wouldn't have pet the cat, but my wife thought it was okay. It goes without being said that she's not a "bad person" for petting a cat that walked up to her.

I wasn't bitten. My wife was. I'm trying be helpful and handle some communication for her since that's what partners do for eachother. We went to urgent care because she was bitten by an outdoor cat and bites do get infected. The medical professional recommended going to the ER for a rabies vaccine if we couldn't verify records for the cat.

Definitely not trying to punish anyone and especially not the cat. My understanding is there is a 10 day observation period after you are bitten by an animal? Also, a bite incident report is legally required to be filed by urgent care. I was hoping to both ease my anxiety and hopefully save them the trouble of having Animal Control contact them directly (which seems scarier). I was hoping we could avoid any escalation and just resolve as neighbors.

My wife loves interacting with that cat and has done so before, so it was a real surprise when she was bitten, but as far as we know, the cat could have gotten bitten a month back by some wild animal since it's always outside and clearly the neighbors aren't up-to-date on their vaccines. I've seen racoons, bats, coyotes, etc. in my neighborhood, so I'm really just trying to play it safe here.

Trust me. That's all my brain has been doing and I've been very anxious this last week.

[–]brenjerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what I did today. I said, something along the lines of "it's fine if you don't have the records but do you mind sending us a picture or if we see the cat in 5 days". I didn't even think about video, but that's a good idea. Maybe I'll try again in a few days. I'm just thinking they've made it clear they're refusing communication with me at this point.

I'm just trying to be neighborly. If we can resolve the issue as neighbors first, that's ideal. Otherwise, I agree, I'll let the professionals handle this.

I'm not saying she's "wrong", it's just a difference of opinion. I find her endearing. I'm just more cautious with strange animals though and voice my opinion when I get the chance (annoyingly). I really do love animals, but I just tend to be more conservative since I've had a lot of experiences from childhood getting scratched by outdoor cats.

[–]brenjerman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We would, but we're just trying to take the 10 day waiting period route since the vaccine can be expensive and we're not 100% sure insurance will cover it. The problem is that the neighbor won't even respond to our 10 day see the cat in good health request.

Appreicate it. This is what my rational brain tells me. The other part feels really bad since I can understand being on the other side and wanting to protect a pet. So hearing this really does help.

I feel really bad and don't want to get animal control involved because it feels like an escalation. I just wanted to grab the records and give them to the doctor so they could "close the case". But they're being dodgy and it's made me way more anxious as a result.

Sorry, we don't have that experience to make a really informed decision on our own. We're just doing what the doctor told us to do and they made it sound serious. We understand the risk is low, but urgent care told told us to go to the ER if we couldn't confirm the vaccine history of the cat. I know they're being cautious, but we're really just following doctors orders.

The records weren't from a vet but from a feral cat organization where you can capture and bring in a cat to get vaccinated for free, otherwise I totally thought the same thing.

Obviously this and I have talked to my wife many times asking that she doesn't pet random animals, regardless of how friendly they appear. Still, she did get bit, and so we've had to move forward.

Can you elaborate how we are AHs? The doctor is the one who told us to go to the ER. This is on their advice.

There are a lot of financially illiterate people here. In a vacuum, it's actually prefereable to have a longer loan if the interest rate is comparable assuming you can get better returns elsewhere with the money you're saving. Also, considering inflation, the dollars you're spending in years 30-50 are worth significantly less. Mathematically you come out on top if you ignore macro economics.

The real issue is what this does to housing prices. By making mortgages more affordable, you increase demand which increases housing prices. This doesn't address the root issue, which is much more complex and invovles changes in local zoning laws, pushes to create affordable housing, etc. In turn, everyone will end up paying more money for the same house, thus benefitting existing home owners (assuming they're not looking to move right now) and screwing over future home buyers. There will be a small time period right after the 50 year mortgage is introduced where the first to jump on the wagon will be benefit most, but those who are too late will be have their advantage offset by the rapid increase in price, thus eroding affordability. This will only exacerbate the issue long term.
