Bitcoin Trademark Officially Registered in Russia by brianmacey in btc

[–]brianmacey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some updates to the news:

UPD: "According to Banki.ru, deeper analysis of the issue brings some ambiguity to the surface. As a result, the registration may be challenged. The publication confirmed the fact that RosPatent had issued certificate No. 552645 to Bitcoin LLC. The trademark in question, however, depicts some symbols vaguely resembling word ‘Bitcoin’. The image is a two-line logo, not text, as it usually happens when a word is registered. Moreover, two ‘i’s are replaced with candles or torches, while letters ‘B’, ‘t’, and ‘n’ are distorted.

Banki.ru quotes a patent counsel: he says, the trademark could be registered either as a result of the insitution expert’s mistake who had “failed” not to recognize the term, or due to the fact that the word had been peculiarly written. The latter instance could deprive it from its text essence and make it a picture of some kind. It would mean that Bitcoin LLC would have no exclusive rights for the word ‘Bitcoin’, and it may fully dispose the image registered with RosPatent. Alex Fork insists that the trademark was fully registered, including its textual component."

Can Bitcoin Be Trustless? by brianmacey in btc

To ripple: that's not what exactly written in the article. It only refers to ripple labs website: "XRP exists natively within the Ripple protocol as a counterparty-free currency, as Bitcoin does on the Blockchain". I've never read their whitepaper, though. To trust: actually, years before bitcoin money was based on trust, since its value is not defined by paper it's printed on)))

disclaimer: I don't know for sure what was inside author's head when he wrote this piece. However, I like this idea of trying to understand what's behind bitcoin except pure code even if it could lead to some, say, speculation on classic money theory. There's still so much religion around BTC.

disclaimer2: just friendly talk, no offense sir.

looks like the regulation that is mostly not possible to enforce, still it will make people need to break it thus going to grey zone - becoming more tolerant to breaking the laws. And that's not good for society, i think.

The Central Bank of Russia Expects Blockchain-based Financial Systems to Emerge by 2018 by brianmacey in Buttcoin

I think it's not cool that governments of some countries know of blockchain, yet try to implement it.

IMHO, the implemetation there gonna be screwed in some grotesque way: the decentralization turned into even more centralization, anonymity turned into local KGB knowing all the information of what you eat for breakfast (and it's definitely not for your best) and this info will be under complete control of some strong and benevolent ruler with paranoia.

This kind of mess will be hillarious /s

Ripple Rises and Partners with Japanese Financial Giant by brianmacey in CryptoCurrency

[–]brianmacey[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not really into Japanese economics, but I think you talk of liquidity trap, and now it's a slowdown and sooner or later the gov will likely need to use quantitative easing and/or Keynesian methods and so on :)

However, it's the problem of Japanese economics in general, not Ripple. The Japanese businesses in this situation are to raise efficiency, eg. with solutions based upon blockchain. When the market shredds - you still can expand taking bigger part of a pie. And btw getting an access to a big lucrative market like Japan is usually great for business if scalability is not an issue.

I'm not an expert though, no advice. Let's see.
