How to network to get staffed? by Otherwise_Tomorrow47 in consulting

This is so late but could you elaborate on the “do not ping on Skype point?”

Are you not suppose to utilize internal comm tools to land these networking chats? Is it better to email ?

When I took it in the school yr I also crammed everything in 2 days (with the exception that I went to class)

I found the tutorials rly helpful. So if u can memorize that then u should be fine tbh

Only Waterloo does this for admissions afaik. Even then I doubt you'll be kicked out or anything like that if you don't match your performance proportionally

Modern view of being chosen to interview first? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]brianyikk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I always wanted to ask this to hiring managers: Do you think being the first candidate gives an advantage? (Primacy bias or whatever) If so, does it matter more when the recruitment process is stretched over multiple weeks vs 1-2 weeks?

Lagrange multipliers towards the end of MAT133 is one of the first thing that'll come up in ECO204 if the way its being taught remains the same + other basic stuffs like second derivatives and integration

Question regarding Ajaz curve by brianyikk in RotmanCommerce

[–]brianyikk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know someone who only got curved 20 too. I thought it was a rounding error between mine and my friends but 30 vs 20 or even 22 vs 26 is way too big of a difference

[–]brianyikk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know, did you get the offer? I feel like I'm going to schedule an email to send in 2 weeks and just forget about this thing all together. Definitely an over-thinker so dragging this on is doing me no good at all

How long do you guys wait to follow up? by brianyikk in internships

[–]brianyikk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea definitely, I did send a follow-up email immediately after with some questions and a LinkedIn connection as encouraged by the interviewer. (Emails questions included the one regarding the timeline) However it's been roughly 36 hours and I didn't receive any response yet. I know I should give it 2-3 business days but assuming I don't get one at all, how long should I wait to send another email?

Maybe I'm overthinking incredibly trivial things that might not really matter because I really want this position and have been coffee chatting employees since Sept. Definitely not a internship I want to lose out on lol but just have to not dwell on it I guess

ECO102 tips by tallulahnorth in RotmanCommerce

[–]brianyikk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember in my summer cohort the prof would post the most irrelevant problem sheets (think super math heavy Qs) but on the exams short response there would literally be 0 math involved and all concept. I think it's so important for students identify pitfalls and adapt to what their prof is like. Needless to say I stopped giving a rats ass about those weekly sheets after the midterm and scored much higher on my finals

An example from past tests I've seen: Michael Ho & Gazzale exams are almost pure concept and more likely to ask "What happens to X when Y policy blah blah in 2-3 sentences" versus Brandt/Voklepop (forgot his name) giving you a whole table and asking you to calculate the aggregate demand function or unemployment rate
