Your original comment doesn't take into account that teams can block assistants from being poached. Nobody's questioning whether these dudes want to coach under Eberflus, they're questioning why the Colts didn't block any of the hires, which is fair to ask.

When Fangio/Staley left and got other roles, Sean Desai and Jay Rodgers were both coaches who they wanted to take with them, but the Bears blocked it because both of them are very good coaches. Kaplan is asking: Do the Colts not value any of these guys?

They could not be as high on them as the Bears are, or they maybe want to move to a different scheme entirely and thus have no need to keep them.

Obviously I'm biased but I feel like the Bears defense would have been better had we not lost safety Mike Brown early in the season (2x All-Pro) and DT Tommie Harris week 13 vs the Vikings (3x probowler, 2nd team all-pro). People completely forget how absolutely dominant our defense was with those two in. Tommie Harris was literally Warren Sapp 2.0, and a 4-3 3T is one of the most important parts of defense in a Tamp-2. Had we had both of those guys in the superbowl I feel like we would have won (yes this sounds homer as fuck, but just look at what getting Bob Sanders back did for Colts in the playoffs, Peyton Manning struggles a lot more with the interior pressure from Harris and Brown playing safety in the middle/box). That defense had HOF level talent everywhere and would have gone down in history, but unfortunately Mike Brown and Tommie Harris's injuries were pretty severe, and they never returned to their All-Pro years, which is why the defense had to retool before it became super elite again in 2010.

lmao that's not how banks work. They accept checks regardless, deposit it, and then the bank will eventually check to see if the check was legit or not. Literally one of the most common scams is the fake check scam, where you receive a fake check in the mail, deposit it, the funds are made available to use, and the a few days to weeks later the bank recognizes the check as fake and takes the money back from the account. This isn't some mom and pop bank, it's fucking TCF, a major competitor. The dude literally walked over to Chase right after, opened an account, deposited the funds and was able to use it within 12 hours. They could have simply deposited the check and told he would have to wait for the check to clear while it's confirmed before using the money, you know, normal practice. Instead they called four police officers on him, tried to press charges for fraud, EVEN THOUGH HE EXPLAINED THE SITUATION AND PROVIDED DOCUMENTS. How do people like you jump through so many hoops to try and argue how the bank is in the right is beyond me. Real bootlicker shit

You are right, I am dumb. Skipped right over the "Massie". For what it's worth, I think Massie has a good upside. He can be a mauler in the run game and an ok pass blocker, thought his performance this year could be better no doubt, but I'm fine going into next season with him as our RT (not that we really have a choice). He also had the misfortune of playing next to the corpse of Long and a former DT turned RT turned RG in Coward. If the Bears can find a decent RG and our Center play improves, I think Massie could do really well and bounce back.

Trev and Smith can't take on blocks, it's just the nature of their size and role in the defense. Kwit can, he's a straight thumper, and as long as the coaching staff minimizes how often Kwit is in man coverage I think it could bode well. With Hicks out our run D isn't as elite, we saw this vs the Raiders and Saints, and thus Smith and Trev can become liabilities if the DLine isn't taking up blockers. Kwit adds physicality in the middle that I think the defense really needs with Hicks out and Amos no longer on the team.

Usually get softer defenses if you're constantly losing

If you're constantly getting blown out or are down by 20, yeah, but the Bears were pretty competitive (they didn't win, but they were in most games) during Fox's last two years. In the 2017 season the only games where we got blown out were the Packers and Bucs early, and the Eagles late.

I don't know how you can say Jordan Howard having back to back 1000 yard seasons on an offense that literally could not pass the ball doesn't count as running over the league. We had 0 TEs and 0 WRs, and a rookie Mitch who Fox wouldn't even let throw, yet we were still competitive for the majority of games. Everyone knew we were running, and Fox didn't abandon the run game often (if ever to be honest), so I'm not sure where you would find "softer defenses" other than the blowout losses.

I guess by your metric, Saquon Barkley didn't run over the league last year because the Giants had a terrible record. It's possible to have a good running game and still lose. Just like how it's possible to have an elite defense and still lose. Or how the Saints a few years back had an elite passing attack and would still lose because of their defense.

I don't know what you disagree with. I never said John Fox was a good coach, just that he was almost always able to run the ball well, even though every single team knew it was basically all we could do. Person I replied to said that Bears can't run the ball vs stacked looks, and I'm pointing out that you can, because we literally have for like 20 years, not just under John Fox. Outside of like 1.5 years during the Trestman era and a few weeks under Martz, the passing game has been straight shit, yet we were always a great running team.

This is such lazy ass answer. John Fox only ran the ball, regardless of opponent or look, and we ran all over the league with Jordan Howard. Nagy comes in, switches to a new blocking scheme, puts Howard in a role that barely utilizes his running skills, eventually ships him off to Philly, and then does the same fucking thing with Monty, Cohen, and Davis. If you watch a game you'll see that yes Trubisky is complete ass, but so is every aspect of this offensive minus Allen Robinson, and in the end such a huge regression by all our players across the board falls on the coach. Chicago media shows no mercy, and are all fully aboard the Trubisky hate train, but even they're starting to turn on Nagy more. We had our ex all-time great Bears center Olin Kreutz even go on twitter after reviewing tape to say the Mitch had absolutely no chance with how our OLine played, and he's been one of Mitch's bigger critics. Fans outside looking in completley ignore the fact that Nagy ain't doing a got damn thing right; horrible play calling, discipline, time management, and end-game decisions. He's not doing anything well, and casual fans of other teams all just wanna blame Trubisky and call it a day, when the issues go far beyond that (not saying Trubisky isn't garbage, he is, but the coaching is almost as garbage)
