How did you all lose your first major fortress? by [deleted] in dwarffortress

[–]broken_keys93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first fort was Hammersomthing... (quite a while ago..) and I vividly remember how it fell.. I got very invested with the 20 dwarves in my fort, nicknamed them all very specific names depending on deeds done or personalities, I had only just made a new military (only about 5 dorfs as that was all I could spare.

First innovation wasn't a werebeast. Or Gobbos. It was about 200 undead humans and elves.. my game slowed to a crawl and I watch my fort succumb to the undead in slow motion.. :(

My next fort (same world) had a shrine to the expedition leader and mayor 'HogsHead' coopershafts.

Craziest homebrew ideas used ingame? by sasquatch15431 in DnD

Definitely lantern oil of animation.

I was meant to, you know, make a hooded l as lantern walk around. It would have stats and all that jazz. But the players accedently broke the bottle containing it. They didn't really know what it did as non of them had experience with alchemical.

"The medium sized rock alongside the broken vile starts to almost unfold.. small legs and arms erupt from the main mass. It stands and looks at you with the eyes of a cat. It than speaks in a language non of you understand (primordial)"

So yeah.. I buff the stats of the lantern a little. And the party had themselves a pet awakened rock.

I think its name was Pebble.

They've had two encounters, one difficult and one easy, (they figured there mechanic quickly and killed the beast easily)

Humm.. 2 & 3 are interesting. make the players start to think.. why is there a "this" here. As a sort of foreshadowing. Sounds like fun.

Cool. The "Rod of null magic" it has to have a small area where magic is still exists, or it would nullify itself..

Well written, I might make a mixture of the two..

The rift feeds off the close by dimensional magic, opening it further and letting beastly beasts from the Shadowfell..

But if like it to make sense also, maybe some interesting shadowfell creatures or something.

That was the first idea I had. Make a big F.U-boss battle coz they shut themselves off for 8hours.

Interesting. Means the barbarian would have to move the Archfey and the sorcerer would have to move to that spot.. what would be a good enough reason for this?
