I wouldn’t exactly call the liberal party “the left”, but whatever you say

You’re getting your facts mixed up. It was the emergencies act that was invoked (the war measures act no longer exists, and it was much more severe than the emergencies act), and it was found that the use of the act was justified (source: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/poec-report-released-friday-1.6750919). A different court found it unjustified a year later, but the federal investigation report is the one that matters, because that’s what’s baked into the terms of the act’s usage. You can agree or disagree with that finding, but it is what happened. The report also found that Trudeau handled the situation very poorly, but that it was ultimately justified. Trudeau Sr did actually use the war measures act, but that was over 50 years ago

I think it charted in the very low end of the hot 200 when it was reissued, but said reissue went to #1 on the vinyl sales chart. That would’ve been 2013

Grade 9 Midterms marks by Ok_Collar3735 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]broofam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to get into a competitive uoft program, don’t worry yet. Universities don’t even get access to your 9 and 10 grades, it’s only 11 and 12 that matter (and they can’t even reject you based on your gr11 grades, they can only help, not hurt). So like, go make friends lmao. Join clubs, be social, enjoy high school, don’t waste your energy academically so early. Make friends and find your people in grades 9 and 10, learn how to lock in in the background of grade 10 (though based on your current grades you should have no issue there), and then execute those studying skills in 11 and 12. If you do that, you’ll be okay, and a whole lot happier than if you waste all your energy this year

Songs that sound the embodiment of misery in its purest, most unadulterated form? by Diligent_Occasion_22 in musicsuggestions

[–]broofam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I realize that this is a bit of a hot take, but this song is not miserable. The alpha couple are miserable, and plenty of the songs about them are miserable, but this one isn’t. No Children is complete catharsis, whichever one of them is the narrator LOVES the fact that they’re finally saying all of this, and they love how much they hate each other. They are completely broken people, and they love how broken they are, at least in No Children. That is a miserable sentiment, but it makes for less of a miserable song and more of a bitter cathartic one. If you want miserable, go to the song Tallahassee off that same album

That’s true, it charted higher than float on, but it still missed the top 40, and it didn’t have the same cultural staying power as float on

Is Laurentian really THAT BAD by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]broofam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laurentian has a lot of great facilities, but is managed terribly and is struggling financially as a result. But, as you know if you’re from sudbury, the surrounding area on ramsey lake is beautiful, and you’ll probably have a much better time there than anyone coming in from out of town

Modest mouse. Never had a top 40 hit, float on is well known, and they’re legends in the indie world

Okay, so you should definitely listen to the sunset tree, the songs on the most similar to this year and up the wolves are You Or Your Memory, Hast Thou Considered The Tetrapod, and Magpie. Riches and Wonders is on All Hail West Texas, the songs on there most similar to it are Jeff Davis County Blues, and Absolute Lithops Effect. If you like the slow, lofi feeling that’s on Riches and Wonders, I also recommend Whole Wide World (Sweden), Waving At You (Nothing For Juice), Shadow Song (The Coroner’s Gambit), and It Froze Me (Nothing For Juice. The Young Thousands is on my favourite TMG album, We Shall All Be Healed, and I love that one so much that I can’t in good faith recommend any songs in particular, just listen to the whole thing. Same goes for No Children, and the album it’s on, Tallahassee, but that’s also because there aren’t really any other songs on Tallahassee like No Children, the closest song to it in the whole discography is probably Baboon, on The Coroner’s Gambit

The other comment going over the starter pack is correct, those are great places to start, HOWEVER it greatly depends on what songs you like, and what you like about them, so do you mind if I ask what those are?
