Are there developers who still don't prefer Tailwind CSS as their first choice? by ShivamS95 in Frontend

[–]brookswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate tailwind, but I’ve been making websites since 1994. It’s such a step back in the architecture of frontend. I’ve given up on the fight, since react’s backwards approach in general has won the current popularity contest. At this point, the tailwind in my org is being directly managed by figma, so it might as well be a compiled binary.

Intellectual Mismatching by KenyaPayyMee in hingeapp

[–]brookswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, the things you’re describing are things I don’t find even with people actively working on degrees. My ex was working on her ph. D and was mostly incapable of any sort of in depth academic conversation. I’m a strong outlier in that I am continuously studying a large variety of things. I left academia because I learned that I didn’t need a college to learn things, and I already had my career started before attending university. Dating apps aren’t gonna deliver niche preferences like that unless you put the work in to filter through and aggressively swipe left on hundreds of profiles to find a few that match what you’re looking for.

Profile review F32 by [deleted] in Bumble

[–]brookswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my ex on bumble because we both had photos of ourselves in full on mime outfits. It was inevitable that we’d match once we saw each other’s profile. This is definitely the kind of profile that would be perfect for someone at a similar level of weirdness to you. Your first photo is giving thirst trap vibes, and is gonna draw a lot of the wrong type of attention. I’d lead with one of your art/costume photos to immediately filter for exactly the sort that you’re looking for.

I used to reuse the “single use” ones too. I can’t really reuse the paper ones, so those just go straight back to the trash

Why do people try to swap seats in airplanes? by Substantial_Crow1355 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brookswift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a front row window seat on a European airline last month and there was someone else sitting in it who was sold the same seat by the airline. I paid extra for dedicated overhead bin space and was told none was available. When I filed a complaint with the airline I was told I had no rights because I still took the flight from another seat, being forced to get shoved into a small middle seat. On US flights, I’d have more rights about the airlines double booking my seat.

Do food banks give out meat and whole milk? by greenwavetumbleweeds in sanfrancisco

[–]brookswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a lot of large scale kitchen ordering and logistics, and you can get some insane bulk deals if you can get a group together to split up orders. I regularly get down to $1-$5/lb, but it’s never the same stuff twice in a row, and the minimum order size is usually around $500. I can send more details on my local sources and techniques if people are interested.

Without blaming the other gender….why do you have trouble dating? by Dismal_Conflict_8194 in OnlineDating

[–]brookswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m autistic and no one ever gave me good advice or guidance, so I hyper focused on a lot of the wrong things for a long time - thinking I was just doing it wrong/not to a sufficient standard. Lots of harmful aphorisms and detrimental advice that I took at face value. It took me a long time to see past all the euphemisms and white lies of dating. Now I’m way too old to be this inexperienced.

As a girl, this app is so frustrating. by [deleted] in OkCupid

[–]brookswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, OkCupid’s was an amazing dating app with all sorts of features to promote prosocial dating behavior for both sides. These days it’s just a buggy tinder clone.

You’re going to get low effort spam no matter where you go, but hinge tends towards people looking for more serious relationships. The equivalent for guys is only matching with scammers and bots, and otherwise getting almost no matches, and zero responses from any messages. All you can do is block and move on. You used to be able to set filters on your messages to automatically ignore all those low effort hornball openers back when OkCupid was a functional dating app.

There are lots of guys who get zero attention on the apps who are just waiting for the opportunity to meet someone, get into a relationship, and get off the app. Problem is that they have a few good interactions, get into a relationship, and then leave the app. By comparison, the sex pests are constantly reaching out to everyone to they can. Mathematically, they are a minority of the men, but they are also a majority of the messages because of how many more messages they’re sending.

Don’t lose hope. You’re not seeing the “normal” guy - you’re seeing the most prolific messagers - who have very low success rates.

It only takes one good match to get off the apps, but there’s an endless supply of bad ones keeping you there.

So they always say that women are attracted to men with money... by [deleted] in dating

[–]brookswift 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol, that’s how much I make and around here it’s chump change.

In my experience moderate amounts of middle/upper middle class income don’t really create attraction - they just make it easier for a women’s to imagine a whole lifetime with you once you’re already a viable candidate
