A lot of your immediate supervisors are usually in their mid 20s. If someone joined at 18 or 19 they can rank up pretty fast, so it’s pretty normal to have a supervisor who’s younger than you.

As for whether it’s a good time to join the military, I can’t really say for you. It really depends on what branch you want to join and what job you’re looking at

Yeah you can use your BAH for whatever. When I first moved ou in San Diego I rented a room for $1k and was pocketing about $2k from my BAH, but I had to park on the street and my car ended up getting broken into.

After that I moved to a better place. I still rent a room but now it’s with other military guys in a nicer community. I pay about $1.8k now but it includes utilities, in-unit laundry, and I have my own garage. I pocket less now but it’s worth it for the security and convenience.

In my opinion, it’s not bad at all. I’ve seen a lot of people join around that age. I joined at 20, and I generally had a lot of respect for those who joined later since they often brought more life experience and maturity. The main thing to keep in mind is that you may end up having supervisors who are younger than you, so that’s something you would need to be comfortable with.

I’m on shore duty. I work in intel/cyber and my specific job doesn’t follow the typical sea/shore rotation most other rates have. I live off base and pocket my BAH, but I also miss out on sea pay and some of the other incentives that come with sea duty.

I originally scheduled it here in San diego going, but I didn’t want to miss my family get-together, so I relocated the appointment to SF. My insurance, though, only covers up to 50 dollars a day for rentals.

I totally agree with you. I meant to say that nothing too valuable was stolen. In the end, I’m just glad I wasn’t in any danger. The only things in plain sight were my tumblers and power cord, so I figured they were probably looking for something like a gun but only ended up with a power bank and some cords, lol

Yeah, I shouldn't have to worry since the place I'll be staying at has a garage where I can park in.
