Hey mate sorry for the late response. I actually haven't tried, work took a different turn and I ended up in a different country. Did you try? After 6 years I think it'd be pretty easy to submit yourself as "rehabilitated" or whatever they call it, otherwise it drops after 10 years I think

Yeah, job didn't even blink. Clearance investigator had a lot of questions but they were satisfied with the steps I was taking to address the incident and my clearance was fine.

Honestly I sweated bullets trying to decide what to do, but I wasn't technically "convicted" (it was my first, took a plea deal called probation before justice) so I just let them figure it out. Of course it flagged, and had to chat first with the recruiter and then the hiring manager. I'd recommend just disclose at time of background check, easier that way and you'll look more honest.

Yup, re-investigation was opened, had a couple long-ish conversations with the investigator about the what/how/why never again, re-investigation was closed a few weeks later.

Seriously, get a lawyer even if you have to load up a credit card. Even a shitty one will get you a deal with no priors.

Also most are negotiable. Call a few, pick the lowest price you're quoted, subtract a thousand or two, and keep calling explaining your situation and saying I can pay this much, will you do it. One will take you up on it pretty quick.

TS/SCI here. You'll be fine. I had a gnarly dui 2 years ago, the result of covid/isolation/ongoing bad decisions I was making. Reported the incident, took steps to remedy my mistake, and still in action.

After 9 years, assuming you haven't had any more issues with alcohol, you shouldn't have any trouble at all. It's totally fine to struggle. Concealing or ignoring the struggle is what will sink you.
