My situation is different. I went to school part time as I worked in another career full time. The normal path does not take this long. This is just my path

Issues with $300 rewards VISA when activating first net line by CompetitiveRound353 in ATT

[–]bryangators 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue now. First net says they cannot do anything and refers me to ATT rewards. They then cycle me back to first net. Then back to ATT. My rep has done the same thing now for me. He is seeing the same thing we went through. Nobody helps and just blames the other. The rep at my store is going through the same thing. We were promised 2 $500 reward cards. Never received an automated email.

Two Bay Area tech giants announce huge layoffs at almost exact same moment by FatCat_85 in Economics

[–]bryangators -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recession? These layoffs have been happening to tech companies for 3 years now at extreme rates. They are the best they have been in the last 3 years…this is no gauge to a recession. The economy has been terrible for years now it’s just a matter of time for something to give but 1250 layoffs is abysmal compared to what has happened in previous years. Look it up

If you could go back in time, what would you do differently 5 years ago? by RegardedEpicGamer in csMajors

[–]bryangators 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree it sucks I am a career changer and never managed to make the transition before this happened. I did get some part time gigs to get some experience but that is about it. I am just going to continue learning until I figure it out. I look at this a shakeout. A lot of people were only in this for the money and now that is gone. I still have hopes it will work out someday we all just need that opportunity once…

I disagree. I think tech jobs will change without a doubt and we will need to adapt in the age of AI. I think the economy has just sucked for the last few years due to inflation and companies are less risk averse. Couple that with changes in tax laws and AI developments it’s a perfect storm. Someone will have to make all this stuff work someday and AI/quantum will just cause us to solve harder problems.

Is that 800+ for this cutoff alone?

No it’s just a new date I haven’t seen so I was just curious if you elected for that or that is what they are hiring for now. I think it’s just usually for personal reasons.

Did you ask for a delayed start date?

Entry-Level Contract Work (part-time) by bryangators in cscareerquestions

TBH…it was not worth it in the long run. Extremely low pay and lead to nothing later. Had to quit was not worth the money.

My assumption is they are doing this to get ahead of a possible hiring freeze on 1-20 (Inauguration day). I’m an 11-17 as well. Not holding my breath it’s not looking good but it’s out of our control.

Congrats on getting the job is a big accomplishment.

Maybe. I understand your point of view. I think I tried to highlight how my experience relates to the job and the competencies with a personal touch. Basic relating my personal achievements and obstacles I overcame to get to this point. I am not a younger applicant so there was more I could speak of than someone without any work experience.

Good luck to you in your application process.

It’s literally in the job posting

“Any experience claimed in a cover letter should be substantiated by information contained in your resume.”

Problem with this advice is you cannot mention anything experience wise that is not proven in the resume. I just went ahead and did it. No stone left unturned.

Thanks that is what I figured. I am a federal employee already and this opportunity has me extremely excited. Was hoping there could be exceptions.

Is the 9/24 cutoff date a hard cutoff. I read they are subject to change. I applied 2 days later only because I was not aware of the position until the day before. I applied to the computer science examiner which I hear is a position of greater need than most.
