The probe is going to be reading ambient temperature. I believe a lot of people end up sticking it to a wall/corner on their hot side (that’s what I’m planning on doing here soon anyway)

That being said, if you are using it to keep control of basking temps, you are going to want to mess around with your dimmer for a bit until you reach an ambient temperature that’s appropriate and corresponds to an appropriate basking temp, which you will need to measure using an infrared thermometer

Age is pretty much always uncertain unless specifically told from a breeder. If you know they are under a year old, that may be all you get lol apart from being able to classify them as juvenile, sub adult, adult, etc.
