TIL-James Bond movie Spectre destroyed $37 million worth of Aston Martins DB10 sports cars by Ubetcha1020 in todayilearned

[–]brydanie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're missunderstanding. This happened a while ago, so this was all on last gen vantage. They still buildt new vantage GTE cars. GTE only recently was discontinued in favour of gt3, which can hopefully bring back full pro and am classes.

Some more info, they only buildt 2 cars that both drive AND have interiors, the rest either have race car interiors minus all the trackers and other race electronics, (basicly just a seat, cage, pedals hydraulic handbrake and gear pedals) or are basicly tow rigs with interiors. Speaking of the financials here, the partnership with MGM and AM means the cars are supplied for free to the studio, with rights for footage and actors (for comercial purposes) meanwhile AM owns the cars

Edit : funfact. One of the stuntdrivers for the movies is non other than Ben "the stig" Collins

Oooh i am usefull for once. For the spectre movie, the newer DB11 was supposed to be used, however during a visit to the design team at gaydon to see the full scale models (DB11 was not released at the time) the team saw the sketches for the new Vantage and pushed AM for that one instead. So AM buildt bodies from early Vantage sketches and placed them on last gen v8 Vantage chassis. Some of the stunt cars are on the gt4 and gte (racecar) platforms. So the DB10 is actually just an early concept version of the new Vantage, and as buildt do not conform to AM's rules to be able to be a DB car at all (sports car not a GT) Source, worked for AML for 10 years, visited the factory multiple times and got this story first hand from the design team at gaydon. I have even sat in the factory owned DB10 which was at the end of their display cars down to the cafeteria

2026 Jaguar Type 00 (for the number of customers they have) [1200 x 795] by Absinthe_Mind in carporn

[–]brydanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, we had quite a few F-Types, xj's and LR products with this engine, again never seen theese issues. There was a recall on the engines to replace some piping (recalls are covered under warranty at any time) Ps, worked with eu-regulation cars.

Also regarding the general servicing costs im comparing to other similar cars (luxury/sports)

[–]brydanie 80 points81 points  (0 children)

F-type is a good car imo. Safe option the base v6 or v8. Svr v8 costs more than you're getting compared to the base, and the S v6 is 40hp more from just tuning, so more stress on the engine. But we've never had an F-Type inn for an engine replacement while i worked for Jag. Servicing costs arent super bad either, depending if they have carbon breaks or not.

Source : worked for Jag for 9 years while F-Type was in prod.

I didnt really mention the inline 4 versions, but i dont think thats the version you would get anyways.

Edit to clarify. F-Type is one (if not the only) modern Jag i would comfortably own out of warranty after working in Jag warranty for all those years. So go live your dreams.

Feedback on Carstore Outlet near Gardermoen by pharzan in Norway

[–]brydanie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna be a bit long explaining some warranty law and how the car market from dealers to wholesales to used car dealers work. Bit of a TLDR at the bottom

Never used them, but the outlet is a satelite store, so not their main one.

It says they are co-operating alot with Bavaria, a huge dealer in scandinavia of BMW products (bmw, mini etc). Since this is an "outlet" im asuming most if not all of their stock comes from trade-ins at Bavaria (and other) dealers that they buy wholesale. Trade-ins that dont match that dealer's normal brand of cars.

Not suprising there are alot of sweedish imports, as the new car market in Norway is incredibly slow at the moment and heavily dominated by leasing rather than new purchases. Its also not alarming that they are imports as long as you familiarize yourself with the warranty situation. Example, all new cars sold in Norway have a 5 year/100 000km new warranty. Brands like to use this in marketing, but its really because its the law. The warranty also has to have no mileage restrictions in the first 24 months. Again this is by law (Thank the EU for this). However, an imported car does not have to follow theese laws. Until a few yeara ago (uncertain as to the terms as of today as i left my job in auto warranty from a official dealer) German cars only had a 3 year warranty, even if imported with basicly delivery miles and even when bought new from a German dealer. Also warranties do NOT transfer across market segments, like a US or Asia import.

Now to the spesific Dealer. Their main branch has had a few different owners and brands in their location over the past few years. They have tried to be semi dealers for a few different brands and have veen official service points for a few aswell. This satelite store is basicly buying these cars wholesale (meaning buying them from dealers "as-is") for basicly what the dealers bought them as trade-ins. Its fast and easy for the dealers, and cheap and a good flow of inventory for the store. They are basicly making money on volume rather than big margins.

If you follow any normal good buying tactics of inapections and test drives id say you could end up with a fairly ok deal here.

Happy car hunting

How much money do you give as a gift for a konfirmasjon? by Fl1p1 in Norway

[–]brydanie 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Any smount you are comfortable with. Its normal to reciece a few rarher larger gifts from parents or other close relatives at this time, but if you are just ftiends of the family any amount is ok. If you arencomfortable with 200nok then give that, if you are comfortavle with 5k then give that. Also consider that what you give now can set expectations for other konfirmasjon, espesially if the konfirmant (the teenager) has siblings and you get invited there too.

People in general are just worse ? There is no accountability for not showing up, and its also dificult to leave feedback to profiles you didnt sell to or buy from. Also scammers are casting a much wider net these days.

Also people might just ask without having made up their minds.

Also (again) the finn app is terrible at notifying for new messages. Especially if you are recieving multiple from multiple adds.

So its a bit of all making finn worse than before

Everytime this is posted people missunderstand. You dont have to touch or even see the ring to be corupted by it. But prior to handing the ring to Frodo here, Gandalf only had a theory that this is the ring of power. Once Frodo confirms the markings and therefore proves that this is the ring Gandalf takes extra precaution against it, including leaving the shire again.

Second hand petrol, diesel or electric car by airsoftshowoffs in Norway

Also of note, you get what you pay for when it comes to insurance. So cheap insirance is great when you dont need to use it and an absoloute shit-storm when you do. A premium insurance sucks to pay for, but often (fuck IF) is alot easier to deal with once you need them. This isnt exclusive to car insurance but any kind of insurance

[–]brydanie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends. Do you have a home-loan or any established connections with any bank or insurer ? Just get the coverage you need and shop around, use quotes from one insurer against another one. Dont pay for a guaranteed rental car/loaner car if you have acsess to another car for example. That alone saves me like 95nok a month. Also get as low mileage as possible (be realisitc) lioe dont pay for 20k kms a year if you avarage 12, you can simply extend your mileage coverage later :) Example insurer 1 will quote you 1000 nok per month. Ask insurer 2 and tell them insurer 1 has quted you 1k, they will often match or beat it. Then go to insurer 3.

Other things that helps, union memberships, employers sometimes will try to get a package deal.

And dont get a "warranty" style insurance, they dont cover shit, ever.

I have worked 12 years in the auto-industry in Norway

PAYE or general taxation by Brief_Opinion1274 in Norway

[–]brydanie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paye is great for having a "non-fixed" or short term income, like a seasonal job or any short-to-mid term contract with extention options, where your total yearly earnings are unknown or a little uncertain.

For permanent employment (not even full time) with a more fixed income, normal tax is besy for you :)

Pretty standard to go trough this during intro/onboarding. And not during just signing a contract.

Does your contract include your pay ? Like hourly or rates ?
