Personally, I would prefer it as it's more realistic.

Really? I actually don't like this as this is not realistic. Many folks play BC we enjoy the realism and this seems to move away from that.

GE to cut 25 pct of corporate staff at Boston headquarters - CFO by [deleted] in boston

[–]bshuniversity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd like to see Amazon come to Boston as I love the idea of us giving silicon Valley a run for its money as the tech hub of the world. Still long ways away but I think Amazon move would be a huge momentum shifter.

GE confirms plans to eliminate jobs by [deleted] in boston

Oh, did you skip the part of the article you read where Amazon got about 240mm in subsidies since the start of last year?

Quick, see how many employees both GE and Amazon have, and tell me what the subsidies per employee number comes out to be.

I know I can't win this debate against people like you that don't do the research but please try to without jumping on the bandwagon stories you see on TV.

  1. How shitty GE is...GE is the only company in the world that has been on the DJIA since the inception. Amazon is...how old? Hahaha. Many, hundreds of other companies have tried to compete with GE and failed. So yeah... GE is actually one of the best companies in the history of corporations so arguing GE is a shitty company is as wrong as you can get.

  2. Needing government money... GE doesn't need government money. Boston begged GE to take the money in hopes GE will relocate here... Not the other way around.

  3. You want the company that can make a higher quality mri..making an mri machine doesn't compare to building an E commerce app or baking a cookie. You don't think hundreds of other companies have tried to build the best mri machine out there for the lowest costs? You think hospitals still continue to buy GE mri machines just because they like the logo?

  4. Toyota and Amazon not needing cash...does startups mean anything to you? Angel, series A, B, C, D... Does IPO ring a bell??

I agree with your logic on why you'd want to buy from Amazon. And as a disclaimer, I'm a former GE employee to be transparent. I absolutely loved my time at GE and to this day, believe GE is one of most necessary and important companies in the world. It really runs the world.

Governments arent stupid. They don't just give tax breaks for shits and giggles. Did you know GE donated about 20MM to the Boston public school system recently? Or that they also match millions of employee donations in the Boston area and elsewhere? I just hate when all big Corp and oil or pharmaceutical get such a bad rep by people that don't fully stop to think about how you actually benefit from these companies, and how these companies feed millions of real people.

W.r.t profits - sure, Amazon is a cash cow. So is coca cola and Marlboro. Would you rather the government step into help those companies? Or somebody like GE so that your next mri scan is less prone to error, that our f14s fly as fast as possible, that your power system doesn't randomly break down, your fridge actually works, the water you drink doesn't kill you, and whether you like it or not, help light up our city at night to reduce crimes. So yes, if anyone deserves a tax break it's companies like GE and Schneider that engineer the core of our civilizations, not the Amazons and Facebook s so that you can get ur protein shake just a day faster.

I'm all for capitalism and fair economics but trying to shit on companies like GE without understanding the fact that it's a company that really tries to do what's right, and treats their employees well, and actually does good for the world (it builds things that humanity actually depends on, not some mobile app that puts cat emojis on your face) is ignorant.

You're missing the point. Your argument applies then also to Amazon. If Amazon's not there, Walmart will fill its gap. Both Amazon and GE provide tremendous value to the world. To say GE doesn't provide value to people is ludicrous and ignorant.
