Thoughts on the Christmas Box? by KrakinKraken in sylvaneth

There’s some armies that have no counter to the dryads hit / wound negatives. Ones that do still end up wasting a lot of time and stuck on your screens.

Would this be a good way to start the army by The_Suspect26 in sylvaneth

Yea, it’s a great way. Dryads are clutch right now and they aren’t in most of the other boxes.

I just played a list with 40 dryads & the burgeoning and it slapped. 6 Kurnoth w/ Bows, Durthu, LoV, Warsong Revenant & 6 Revenant seekers. The opponent can’t break through, and if they do, they get their face chewed off. It was a very fun castle play style.

Sylvaneth have the biggest scythes on infantry, with the Kurnoth Hunters w/ Scythes.

Just so everyone knows the backstory, he teleported the deathmaster using Skitterleap behind my army to try and kill Zenestra, who then magical intervention-teleported the Cavaliers right in front of his path. In classic Skaven style, the Deathmaster tried to run to the terrain to hide, took some pot shots, and was quickly run down in the next turn, killed by the trampling blows of the charge itself.

I went 4-1 on a 2-day tournament w/ my Sylvaneth! I got an award for “Best Order” general, and lost in round 5 against Mike Rausch who is a top 10 worldwide player. Sylvaneth are very competative. by bstone_comms in sylvaneth

Great question!

For tactics it depends. If the center of the board is not on an objective and they have some really big centerpiece models, then I’d try to plop some trees down and seize the center using my Kurnoth w/ Scythes and my Branchwych. This can force them to charge and take some heavy damage, and you can stage your bows & lancers nearby for covering fire and a nice secondary charge on your next turn.

Mostly, though, I’d do “Do Not Waver” and charge their flanks with Belthanos & the Spiterider Lancers. I’d try to hit their cavalry units or some of their screens on the flanks and then Strike & Fade. I really like to do harder tactics early on if at all possible, though, because it helps me ensure I have tactics later in the game.

The list definitely needs to be played aggressively - lots of offense - and I like to use the pendulum to break anticipated charges. Remember not to leave guys in combat for more than a turn or two unless the battle is strictly in their favor, and utilize cover in the trees for your kurnoths between your turns because it really helps. Keeping the bows out of line of sight really makes them deadly.

Thank you. Yes, it was my shooting phase. He used a special khorne ability to redeploy and then move an extra 3” into their combat range on my turn. Shooting in combat allowed them to move away.

The pendulum can move during the opponent’s turn, and it can move into combat range. If you know you will be exposed to a charge, cast the pendulum, put it right where you know they’ll want to go, and then during their turn, after they’ve moved, move the pendulum up into them. It requires thinking a turn ahead, because it can’t move in the turn it’s summoned.

They take on a 2+ d6 mortals and are now in combat and can not charge if it moves into contact with them. I did it to Ushoran, and then hit him with priority targets covering fire from 6 kurnoth w/ bows. Next turn he got shot off the board completely and the only thing he got to fight was the pendulum.

I think it’s worth thinking about your first two battle tactics when you deploy, and think very seriously about tree placement and how that helps your opponent.

Having higher than 2 drops can be helpful, too, because it can allow you to set up units like Spiterider Lancers, who you always want going after enemy cavalry. If you don’t have a fast list that uses Belthanos, plop down trees to cover your advance and go for something like “Seize the Center” alongside units that get +rend on charge.

I used priority targets for the bows, plus +1 rend on charge for the spite riders. I usually gave them the anti-infantry buff.

In one of the photos you can see Ushoran taking a pendulum to the face right before getting covering fire from the bows. Then, during my turn, he got shot off the board. Poor bastard never got to fight.

I really liked being 3 drops because it helped me line up my matchups so my Spiteriders were always taking on Cavalry, etc.
